Jan. 24

Manitou Springs Police officers stopped a vehicle with fictitious plates near Manitou Avenue and Garden of the Gods Place. The driver was cited for a criminal traffic violation and the plates were seized.

At 1253 hours, MSPD responded to a burglary in progress in the 100 block of Manitou Avenue. Two people were arrested on criminal trespassing charges.

Officers responded to a cold theft from a vehicle in the Hydro Street parking lot. No suspect information is available.

An MSPD officer stopped a vehicle in the 3600 block of West Colorado Avenue at 1707 hours. The driver was wanted on a local misdemeanor warrant. The warrant was served and the suspect was released with a new court date.

Jan. 25

Officers responded to City Hall, where a person who was held in contempt of court at 0945 hours.

Jan. 26

At 0332 hours in the 100 block of Manitou Avenue, MSPD contacted a vehicle suspected of being involved in a theft in Monument about two weeks before. The driver was found to have multiple local felony warrants, as was a passenger. They also matched the descriptions of the theft suspects. They were taken into custody and booked into the El Paso County Criminal Justice Center. 

While on foot patrol downtown, officers observed a man smoking marijuana near Fountain Creek in the 1000 block of Manitou Avenue. They discovered he had a local felony warrant and took him into custody; he was booked into CJC.

Jan. 28

MSPD responded to a hit-and-run accident in the 100 block of Spencer Avenue. Upon arrival, they noticed a white Nissan parked with damage to the driver’s side. The officers documented the incident.

At 1930 hours, a Manitou officer located a stolen vehicle in the 200 block of Manitou Avenue. The vehicle was released to its owner and a suspect was arrested. She also had an El Paso County felony warrant and was booked into CJC.

Officers patrolling the 200 block of Manitou Avenue contacted a man who had several misdemeanor warrants from the MSPD. He was taken into custody and issued new court dates before being released.

Jan. 29

At 2155 hours in the 200 block of Manitou Avenue, an officer located a vehicle with a stolen license plate. The plate was recovered and cleared from the system. No arrests were made.

COURT UPDATE

According to the Colorado Judicial Branch’s online docket, Timothy Hilt, a former Manitou Springs High School teacher accused of sexually assaulting a student, will be in court for a preliminary hearing on Thursday, Feb. 10.

Matthew Barton, a former MSHS teacher accused of sexually assaulting a student, is scheduled for a preliminary hearing on Tuesday, March 15.

Ashlynne Perez pleaded guilty to criminally negligent child abuse resulting in death and is scheduled to be sentenced Thursday, March 24. Her 4-year-old son accidentally shot himself in the head July 6 outside a Manitou business.

Her husband, Carlos Perez, is scheduled to be arraigned (formal reading of charges) on Friday, March 18.
