Dec. 13
At 0156 hours, Manitou Springs Police officers were dispatched to the 1000 block of Manitou Avenue regarding a disturbance. One person on scene was found to have three local misdemeanor warrants and was cited for criminal mischief; the suspect was transported to the El Paso County Criminal Justice Center.
MSPD responded to a check-the-welfare request in the 100 block of Manitou Avenue and found a male juvenile who had been reported missing in Colorado Springs. Officers took him home.
At 2228 hours, officers discovered a suspicious vehicle near 31st and Morrison streets. It had been stolen in Colorado Springs, and a search revealed other stolen items. They were collected as evidence and passed along to the Colorado Springs Police Department. The vehicle was towed and the owner contacted.
At 2342 hours, officers stopped a vehicle in the 100 block of Manitou Avenue for a minor traffic violation. After contacting the driver and investigating further, they discovered the driver had a local misdemeanor warrant; paperwork for a personal recognizance bond was completed. But the officers also determined the driver was under the influence of drugs, and the suspect was arrested.
Dec. 14
A minor traffic accident, due to a patch of ice, occurred in the 400 block of El Monte Place. No one was injured, but there was vehicle damage.
A traffic accident between a Manitou city vehicle and a trash truck occurred near Plainview Place and Banks Place. The accident was documented and a case report was taken.
At 1522 hours, MSPD contacted a person wanted on a local misdemeanor warrant at Ridge Road and West Colorado Avenue. The suspect was arrested.
Dec. 15
Officers responded to a 911-only cellphone hang-up call from the 400 block of Ruxton Avenue at 2000 hours. They searched the area, but couldn’t find the caller.
Dec. 16
MSPD learned of a hit-and-run accident with vehicle damage in the 300 block of Sutherland Place. While investigating, officers determined that a public transportation vehicle may have been involved. The investigation is ongoing.
At 2355 hours, officers stopped a vehicle near 25th Street and West Colorado Avenue. The driver had a local misdemeanor warrant, and was served a personal recognizance bond and released.
Dec. 17
MSPD responded to a disturbance in the 00 block of Manitou Avenue. One person was placed on a mental health hold.
Manitou officers spotted and responded to an arson in progress near the intersection of U.S. Highway 24 and Ridge Road. They contacted a homeless male regarding the illegal burn and discovered he had local misdemeanor warrants. He was issued personal recognizance bonds.
Officers impounded a vehicle that had been abandoned in a city park’s parking lot for several weeks.
Dec. 18
A vehicle burglary was reported in the 00 block of Hydro Street. Officers found that a window was forced open and a wallet was taken, among other items.
During a traffic stop in the 00 block of El Paso Boulevard, MSPD discovered the driver had multiple local misdemeanor warrants. The driver was issued new court dates and released. However, the vehicle was impounded and, during an inventory of its contents, a felony quantity of suspected methamphetamine was discovered. Additional charges are being sought against the driver.
MSPD had an abandoned vehicle towed from the 400 block of El Paso Boulevard.
At 0015 hours, officers stopped a vehicle speeding in the 400 block of Manitou Avenue. After investigating, they discovered it had a fictitious license plate and the driver’s license had been cancelled. The driver was issued a summons and released.
A suspect wanted on a local felony was arrested at the Manitou Springs Police Station, 606 Manitou Ave.
At 2324 hours, officers observed a vehicle with an inoperable passenger-side brake light, speeding in the 00 block of Manitou Avenue. They stopped the vehicle and observed it was displaying expired registration. The driver was asked to undergo roadside testing, which led to an arrest for driving under the influence of drugs.
Dec. 19
MSPD served an out-of-county felony warrant in the 100 block of Manitou Avenue.
At 2247 hours, officers responded to the 00 block of Crystal Park Road regarding a suspicious incident. The caller reported that an unknown person attempted to enter their home, but fled on foot when confronted. MSPD located a possible suspect and gathered information for the investigation.
COURT UPDATE
Pawel Jakubczyk, former owner/operator of PJ’s Stagecoach Inn, 702 Manitou Ave., has been held in contempt of court. In fall 2020, Jakubczyk was ordered to start repaying former employees money he owed them, but did not. He is in the El Paso County Criminal Justice Center and will serve 45 days to six months. He will be fined $500 per day until the employees are fully reimbursed.
According to the Colorado Judicial Branch’s online docket, Landon Johnston, who is accused of vandalizing Crystal Valley Cemetery in May, will be arraigned Thursday, Dec. 30.
Ashlynne Perez, charged with criminally negligent child abuse resulting in death, is due in court Tuesday, Dec. 21, for a pre-trial conference and will return for arraignment on Thursday, Jan. 27.
Her husband, Carlos Perez, is due in court Tuesday, Dec. 21, for a pre-trial conference. Their 4-year-old son accidentally shot himself in the head July 6 outside a Manitou business.
Jacob Carley, the Manitou police officer accused of sending revenge porn, is scheduled for a disposition hearing on Friday, Jan. 14.
