Dec. 6

At 0048 hours, Manitou Springs Police officers responded to the 3000 block of West Colorado Avenue to assist El Paso County Sheriff’s deputies with the arrest of a suspect in possession of a stolen vehicle.
Officers stopped a speeding vehicle in the 300 block of Manitou Avenue. The driver was found to have an out-of-county felony warrant and was transported to the El Paso County Criminal Justice Center.

Dec. 7

A criminal mischief incident was reported on city property in the 400 block of Ruxton Avenue. A plaque at the Iron Springs information stand was removed, but was found later in the neighborhood.

A cold theft (from mail) was reported in the 900 block of Manitou Avenue. Officers took a case report.

A juvenile was arrested in the 400 block of El Monte Place on a charge of harassment via electronic communication.

Officers served a local misdemeanor warrant in the 400 block of Ruxton Avenue.

At 2305 hours, MSPD responded to a disturbance in the 100 block of Manitou Avenue. Upon arriving, officers contacted a suspect who had multiple arrest warrants. The suspect was arrested on a local felony charge.

Dec. 8

MSPD is investigating a statutory (underage) sexual assault in the 400 block of El Monte Place.

Officers stopped a vehicle in the 400 block of Manitou Avenue; the driver was found to have multiple misdemeanor warrants and was cited for traffic offenses.

At 1953 hours in the 00 block of Manitou Avenue, MSPD stopped a vehicle with non-functioning taillights. After further investigation, officers discovered the driver had a failure-to-appear warrant related to a misdemeanor charge from the El Paso County’s Sheriff’s Office. The driver was given a new court date and released.

Dec. 9

An officer responded to a domestic violence call in the 00 block of Manitou Avenue. The reporting party said they’d gotten into a fight with their significant other. One person was arrested and booked into CJC, while the other sought treatment at a local hospital.

A statutory rape was reported in the 400 block of El Monte Place.

Dec. 10

At 2233 hours, a Manitou officer responded to a criminal trespass in progress at a bar in the 900 block of Manitou Avenue. A man on scene was in control of a vehicle and the officer suspected he was under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs. After an investigation, the man was taken into custody and a blood sample was collected. He was issued a summons and released to a sober driver.

MSPD responded to a disturbance reported in the 100 block of Manitou Avenue; someone was threatening others with pieces of broken glass. Officers detained the suspect while investigating, but no one on scene wanted to pursue charges. The suspect was transported to a local hospital for a mental health evaluation.

At 2034 hours, officers stopped a vehicle in the 200 block of Manitou Avenue because its color didn’t match its registration. While talking to the driver, the officers observed drug paraphernalia in plain view inside the vehicle. It was searched and the driver was issued a summons for various offenses.

An MSPD officer located a vehicle with fictitious license plates in the area of 26th Street and U.S. Highway 24. The driver was discovered to have a suspended license and was cited for the vehicle registration and driving without a license.

Dec. 11

During a traffic stop in the 3200 block of West Colorado Avenue, officers discovered the driver had an out-of-county felony warrant. He was taken into custody and transported to CJC.

While patrolling the 3200 block of West Colorado Avenue, officers saw a vehicle with a license plate that had been reported as stolen. The driver was taken into custody.

Dec. 12

At 0123 hours, officers attempted to stop a vehicle in the 00 block of Manitou Avenue. The driver left the scene at reckless speeds and officers terminated the pursuit for safety concerns. There is no suspect information.

MSPD officers were on foot patrol in the 00 block of Crystal Park Road when a citizen flagged them down to report a vehicle break-in. The officers took a report and investigated while on scene.

At 1912 hours, officers stopped a vehicle for a traffic violation in the 100 block of Manitou Avenue. While investigating, they began to suspect the driver was driving under the influence of alcohol. The driver was arrested.

COURT UPDATE

According to the Colorado Judicial Branch’s online docket, the arraignment for Landon Johnston, who is accused of vandalizing Crystal Valley Cemetery in May, has been rescheduled to Thursday, Dec. 30.

Ashlynne Perez, charged with criminally negligent child abuse resulting in death, is due in court Tuesday, Dec. 21, for a pre-trial conference.

Her husband, Carlos Perez, is due in court Tuesday, Dec. 21, for a pre-trial conference. Their 4-year-old son accidentally shot himself in the head July 6 outside a Manitou business.

Pawel Jakubczyk will appear in court for a hearing on Friday, Dec. 17. He was the owner/operator of PJ’s Stagecoach Inn, 702 Manitou Ave., now known as Manitou Eatery.

Jacob Carley, the Manitou police officer accused of sending revenge porn, is scheduled for a disposition hearing on Friday, Jan. 14.

Freddie Crespo, who pled guilty to reckless manslaughter and assault 2 in the May 2019 death of Jimmie Baker, has been sentenced to 11 years in prison. However, since he has already been confined for about 2.5 years, he could serve almost 8.5 years.
