Aug. 29
The Manitou Springs Police Department received a report about a disturbance in the 900 block of Manitou Avenue on Aug. 27. The reporting party asked officers to document the incident.
Officers stopped a vehicle near westbound U.S. Highway 24 and Manitou Avenue for violations. The vehicle was towed due to the driver’s circumstances and the vehicle’s status.
MSPD responded to a cold report of a vehicle hitting a mailbox in the 100 block of Deer Path Avenue. The vehicle lost its license plate, which was taken as evidence.
Aug. 30
While patrolling the 3000 block of West Colorado Avenue, officers located several people loitering at a business that had signs prohibiting such behavior. One person refused to identify himself and was detained before being cited and released.
Manitou officers located a person partially blocking traffic in the 3100 block of West Colorado Avenue and attempted to wake the person, but were unsuccessful. Medical personnel were called and the person was transported to a hospital.
MSPD responded to a domestic violence in progress in the 00 block of Sandra Lane. After interviewing both people, officers established cause to believe one person physically harassed the other. The suspect was taken into custody and booked into the El Paso County Criminal Justice Center.
Aug. 31
Officers contacted a suspicious vehicle trespassing in the 2500 block of Manitou Avenue. One occupant was arrested on felony warrants from Texas.
MSPD responded to the 300 block of El Paso Boulevard for a fraud report. The victim was contacted by someone she believed represented her bank. After speaking for some time, the suspect persuaded the victim to download two applications for her cell phone and transferred $60-$100 out of the victim’s bank account.
Officers were contacted about a man seen walking onto various porches in the Via Linda Vista area, removing property and attempting to open doors. MSPD located him and he was charged with burglary and booked into CJC.
MSPD observed someone driving carelessly and aggressively near westbound Highway 24 and 26th Street. Officers began to suspect the driver was under the influence of marijuana and took him into custody. A chemical sample was collected and he was cited for DUID and released.
Sept. 1
Officers stopped a vehicle at Manitou Avenue and Beckers Lane. The driver was found to be under the influence of alcohol and was taken into custody. The suspect was booked into the CJC for that and a warrant.
At 1121 hours, MSPD stopped a vehicle with no license plate near the Washington Bypass and Washington Avenue. Officers investigated and seized drug paraphernalia for destruction. The driver was cited for operating an unregistered vehicle.
Manitou officers stopped a vehicle with defective lights at Manitou Avenue and Crystal Park Road. The driver was arrested on suspicion of DUI.
MSPD stopped a vehicle near 26th and St. Anthony streets that matched the description of a stolen vehicle. It was checked and found to not be stolen and the driver was released.
Sept. 2
Officers responded to a suspicious incident in the 3700 block of West High Street. A case report was taken to document it.
MSPD responded to a 911 hang-up from a residence in the 00 block of El Paso Boulevard with a history of domestic violence. The officers discovered a suspect with an active protection order against them at that location.
A theft was reported in the 700 block of Manitou Avenue; an unknown suspect took a sterling silver ring without paying.
Unknown suspects broke the front passenger-side window of an unoccupied vehicle in the Hiawatha Gardens parking lot and removed multiple items.
At 1740 hours, officers responded to a theft report in the 700 block of Manitou Avenue. The suspect had taken someone’s financial devices and attempted to conduct transactions at various locations. The suspect has not been identified.
MSPD responded to a traffic accident with injury at the on-ramp to westbound Highway 24 from Manitou Avenue. The scene was cleared and a report was taken.
Sept. 3
While investigating a barking dog complaint in the 1300 block of Manitou Avenue, officers discovered a man camping in the area. He was arrested on an out-of-county misdemeanor warrant.
MSPD responded to a check-the-welfare request about a man down in the area of Cañon Avenue and Highway 24. He was obviously deceased and circumstances indicated he had likely jumped from the highway bridge. The El Paso County Coroner’s Office responded and took over the investigation. The victim’s family was notified.
Sept. 4
At 0730 hours near westbound Highway 24 and 31st Street, officers contacted a person who was wanted on a local misdemeanor and took the suspect into custody.
MSPD responded to a traffic accident with vehicle damage at the Manitou Avenue on-ramp to westbound Highway 24.
A disturbance was reported in the 200 block of Manitou Avenue at 1712 hours. MSPD responded and served a summons to a man for criminal mischief and shoplifting.
A domestic violence incident in progress was reported near Cañon Avenue and Lovers Lane. Officers spotted the suspect’s vehicle leaving the area and stopped it. Neither person would cooperate with the investigation, but the officers began to suspect the man was driving under the influence of alcohol. He was arrested, then cited and released.
