Aug. 22

Manitou Springs Police officers were dispatched to a suspicious vehicle in a hotel parking lot in the 00 block of Manitou Avenue. When officers arrived, that vehicle was gone, but they located a similar vehicle with a man inside using drugs. After identifying him, the officers learned he had local misdemeanor warrants. He also was cited for possession of controlled substances and booked into the El Paso County Criminal Justice Center.

Officers responded to the 00 block of El Paso Boulevard, where a dispute regarding noise levels led to someone hitting the side of another person’s trailer, causing minor damage. The suspect was cited for criminal mischief and released.

While patrolling on foot in a wooded area in the 3400 block of West Colorado Avenue, MSPD located a man with local misdemeanor warrants. He was taken into custody and booked into CJC.

At 1400 hours, officers stopped a vehicle in the 100 block of Manitou Avenue. The driver was cited and the vehicle was impounded per an outside agency’s request.

MSPD stopped a vehicle with fictitious license plates at 1521 hours near U.S. Highway 24 and 31st Street. The plates were seized as evidence and the driver was issued a summons and released.

A hiker found a bag of an unknown white substance just off a trail, and it was reported to a Manitou officer driving through a parking lot in the 300 block of Beckers Lane. Due to the probability of a delayed response from the Colorado Springs Police Department and the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office at the time, the officer collected the bag and tested it. It came back as positive for cocaine and the information was referred to Vice Narcotics and Intelligence.

Officers responded to a business alarm in the 400 block of Manitou Avenue. Upon arrival, they observed signs of forced entry, but didn’t locate a suspect. Cash is no longer stored in the business after closing and nothing else was missing. The investigation continues.

Aug. 24

MSPD officers were dispatched to a business alarm in the 300 block of Manitou Avenue. When they arrived on scene, they noticed a door was broken open. The investigation is ongoing.

Criminal mischief occurred at Manitou Springs High School on El Monte Place. The school resource officer is investigating.

At 1259 hours, MSPD officers were in the 3400 block of West Colorado Avenue when they contacted a person wanted on a local misdemeanor warrant. The suspect was taken to CJC.

Aug. 25

MSPD responded to a traffic accident with injuries at mile marker 290 on westbound Highway 24. The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office arrested a female passenger on unrelated charges, and the Colorado State Patrol is handling the crash investigation.

Officers stopped a speeding vehicle in the 3300 block of West Colorado Avenue. The driver was found to be under the influence of alcohol and was arrested.

MSPD attempted to stop a red Dodge Ram missing a license plate near Manitou Avenue and westbound Highway 24, but the driver wouldn’t yield to emergency lights and sirens. The vehicle was weaving erratically; the officer terminated the pursuit after about a half-mile out of concern for public safety. The vehicle was last seen near Highway 24 and Green Mountain Falls.

Police officers and fire department personnel responding to a check-the-welfare request found a deceased person inside a residence in the 800 block of Manitou Avenue. The person had last been seen about five days before. The El Paso County Coroner’s Office responded, maintained care of the decedent and notified the next-of-kin.

MSPD was dispatched to a cold criminal mischief report in the 800 block of Midland Avenue. Officers investigated.

Manitou officers contacted a woman near West Colorado Avenue and Ridge Road and found she had an arrest warrant. She was taken into custody and booked into CJC.

Aug. 26

A man reported that his dog had been stolen from his vehicle in the 500 block of Cañon Avenue. The investigation is ongoing.

MSPD responded to a traffic accident with vehicle damage at Manitou Avenue and Beckers Lane. Officers investigated the incident.

A cold vehicle break-in at the Wichita parking lot, 700 block of Manitou Avenue, was reported. The victim’s wallet was stolen and a credit card was used at a Colorado Springs store soon after the theft. The investigation is focused on suspect information.

MSPD contacted a man and woman in the 300 block of Manitou Avenue. The man was found to be the victim of a domestic violence crime; the woman was taken into custody and booked into CJC.

Aug. 27

Manitou officers responded to a report of property found in the 100 block of Manitou Avenue. They collected the property and placed it into safekeeping.

Property found in the Wichita Gardens parking lot was turned in to MSPD and has been secured.

Aug. 28

At 1303 hours near the intersection of Ridge Road and Highway 24, MSPD contacted a suspect wanted on an out-of-county misdemeanor; that resulted in an arrest and transport to jail.
