Feb. 22

Manitou Springs Police officers assisted another agency by going to an address in the 400 block of Ruxton Avenue and searching for a stolen phone. When they arrived, they recovered the phone and, while investigating, learned a man there had a local misdemeanor warrant. He resisted arrest, but the officers were able to take him into custody and transport him to the El Paso County Criminal Justice Center.

A found blue Visa card was turned in at the Manitou Springs Police Station.

A set of keys were found behind Briarhurst Manor Estate and turned in to MSPD.

Feb. 24

A juvenile is being investigated on suspicion of disorderly conduct in the 400 block of El Monte Place

At 1700 hours, a victim reported a sexual assault in the 00 block of El Paso Boulevard. Suspect information was provided and the case is being investigated.

Feb. 26

MSPD responded to U.S. Highway 24 to assist another law enforcement agency with a call for service regarding a possible drunken driver. Manitou officers conducted an on-scene investigation with the Colorado State Patrol and the driver was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol. While searching the vehicle, officers found a large amount of narcotics and cash.

COURT UPDATE

According to the Colorado Judicial Branch’s online docket, Matthew Barton, a former Manitou Springs High School teacher accused of sexually assaulting a student, is scheduled for a preliminary hearing on Tuesday, March 15.

Timothy Hilt, a former MSHS teacher also accused of sexually assaulting a student, will be in court for a disposition hearing on Thursday, March 24.

Ashlynne Perez pleaded guilty to criminally negligent child abuse resulting in death and is scheduled to be sentenced Thursday, March 24. Her 4-year-old son accidentally shot himself in the head July 6 outside a Manitou business.

Her husband, Carlos Perez, is scheduled to be arraigned (formal reading of charges) on Friday, March 18.
