Jan. 4

At 2128 hours, Manitou Springs Police officers stopped a vehicle with a fictitious license plate in the 200 block of Manitou Avenue. They began to suspect the driver was under the influence of alcohol. After roadside testing, the driver was taken into custody. The driver refused to undergo chemical testing, and was issued a summons and notice of revocation of license, then released.

Jan. 5

The Boulder County Sheriff’s Office contacted the MSPD to ask for help in locating a man with a felony arrest warrant. After a brief search, Manitou officers located him in the 00 block of Lincoln Avenue and took him into custody. He was later booked into the El Paso County Criminal Justice Center.

Jan. 6

At 0011 hours in the 400 block of Manitou Avenue, officers observed a driver fail to signal a left-hand turn. After contacting the driver, they discovered the driver didn’t have a valid license, was displaying expired registration and was unable to provide proof of vehicle insurance. The driver was cited and released.

MSPD responded to a disturbance report in the 300 block of Manitou Avenue at 1334 hours. Officers determined a man was a danger to himself or others, and he was taken to a local hospital for medical assistance.

A fraud by credit card was reported in the 300 block of Clarksley Road. MSPD is investigating.

Jan. 7

Officers conducted a business check in the 100 block of Manitou Avenue. They contacted a man found to have multiple misdemeanor warrants, and he was transported to CJC.

MSPD was patrolling the 200 block of Manitou Avenue when officers contacted a man in the park restroom after park hours. He was found to have multiple Manitou misdemeanor warrants.

Officers were dispatched to a fight in the 800 block of Manitou Avenue. They contacted one person involved; he said he fell and nothing else happened. A witness reported seeing a vehicle leaving the scene shortly after they called in the report.

MSPD responded to a criminal trespass (auto) report in the 300 block of Plainview Place. Officers contacted the victim, who said he caught an unknown person looking through the back of his vehicle. The suspect fled the scene in an unknown model red sedan. Officers canvassed the area but were unable to locate the suspect. The victim said nothing appeared to be missing and the vehicle was not damaged.

At 1037 hours near Beckers Lane and El Paso Boulevard, MSPD stopped a vehicle that was not displaying a registration tag. The vehicle was impounded and the driver was cited.

Officers responded to a disturbance in the 900 block of Manitou Avenue. Upon their arrival, the reporting person pointed out the suspect, who was detained. After a brief investigation, the man was cited for trespassing and released.

A single-vehicle traffic accident caused minor property damage in the 100 block of Ruxton Avenue. No one was injured, but a report was taken to document damage to the property.

Jan. 8

At 1430 hours, MSPD responded to a theft reported in the 500 block of Ruxton Avenue. Upon arriving, officers contacted the reporting person who said a known suspect entered their business and took merchandise without paying. Suspect information was provided and the suspect was served with a court summons.

Officers stopped a vehicle with an inoperable headlight in the 500 block of Manitou Avenue. They suspected the driver was under the influence of alcohol and arrested the person.

At 1410 hours, MSPD responded to an assault in the 100 block of Oklahoma Road. Upon arriving, the officers spoke with both people involved and established that an assault had occurred. The victim didn’t want to pursue charges at this time.

Jan. 9

MSPD responded to a disturbance in the 1000 block of Manitou Avenue at 1805 hours. The victim said that a driver ran over his foot and was able to point out the driver’s vehicle and his residence. Officers identified the suspect and took him into custody for driving under the influence of alcohol and failure to report an accident.

COURT UPDATE

According to the Colorado Judicial Branch’s online docket, Jacob Carley, the former Manitou police officer accused of sending revenge porn, is scheduled for a disposition hearing on Friday, Jan. 14.

Landon Johnston, who is accused of vandalizing Crystal Valley Cemetery in May, is scheduled to be arraigned Thursday, Jan. 20.

Ashlynne Perez, charged with criminally negligent child abuse resulting in death, is due in court for arraignment on Thursday, Jan. 27.  Her 4-year-old son accidentally shot himself in the head July 6 outside a Manitou business.

Her husband, Carlos Perez, is due back in court on Tuesday, Jan. 25, for a hearing about a permanent restraining order.

Timothy Hilt, a former District 14 teacher accused of sexually assaulting a student, will be in court for a preliminary hearing on Thursday, Feb. 10.
