A Manitou Springs resident submitted scanned images from mail he received recently. A group called Citizens Behind the Badge, based in Merrifield, Virginia, is sending out surveys and donation requests.
The group asks for a minimum $9 âdeclaration & survey processing contributionâ so it can deliver âdeclarationsâ to local police chiefs and/or sheriffs. The letter also asks for additional donations to help pay for an advertising campaign opposing whatâs been called attempts to âdefund the police.âÂ
Citizens Behind the Badge is not registered as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit with the IRS, according to Charity Navigator. The letter states that donations will be used to pressure politicians.
