Yule Day Highlights

Though the weather outside was frightful (frightfully cold with wind), the warmth, songs and festivities of Yule Day in Green Mountain Falls on Saturday, Dec. 2, were delightful!

Sponsored by Green Box Arts, Church in the Wildwood and the town of Green Mountain Falls, the day held a variety of family-friendly activities that reminded one of holidays past, complete with joy, community, Santa, hot chocolate, s’mores and more.

“We’re trying to resurrect those old-towny traditions,” said Sean Ives, who grew up in Green Mountain Falls and is Green Box Arts’ operations manager.

Carols, Candles and Cookies

Looking for a festive gathering for yourself and family? Consider an evening of Advent and Christmas Hymns at Church in the Wildwood at 7 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 17. The Colorado Springs Philharmonic will perform along with the church’s own handbell and vocal choirs, with a reception including cookies afterward. Freewill offerings appreciated. GMF trustees postpone budget approval

Recent propositions, turmoil and votes affecting property tax relief efforts have resulted in the Green Mountain Falls trustees delaying approval of the final 2024 budget at their November meeting. In December, trustees are expected to take up a “lean operational budget,” said Town Manager Becky Frank.

GMF will continue working under its 2023 budget with a 4 percent cost-of-living adjustment to the general fund. Frank said she hopes the budget can be confirmed in March, when the town will have a better idea what revenues will be for 2024.

Areas of fiscal consideration that may be affected are the removal of fire fuels from town property, and requests from the Parks, Recreation and Trails Committee (PRT) to expand public pool hours and upgrade the pool park.

“Thankfully, I don’t see this impacting us in any negative way until the real budget gets approved next year,” PRT chair Jesse Stroope said.
