Weather forces postponement of Manitou’s Carnivale Parade, Gumbo Cookoff to March 2

You can’t keep a good krewe down, and the Manikrewe Carnivale committee is determined to roll!

With heavy snow predicted to fall the evening of Friday, Feb. 9, through Saturday evening, the city of Manitou Springs, the Manitou Springs Chamber of Commerce and the Manikrewe Committee have decided to postpone the Manitou Springs Carnivale Parade to Saturday, March 2.

“It’s a tough decision, but the safety of our citizens, our parade-goers and the krewes is paramount,” said Jenna Gallas, special events coordinator for the Chamber of Commerce.

“The spirit of the Mardi Gras season will still be with us when the parade rolls on March 2. We wanted to honor and respect all the hard work these krewes have done to bring their very best, and that means postponing instead of cancelling.”

The Mumbo Jumbo Gumbo Cookoff has also been rescheduled for 11 a.m. March 2 at Soda Springs Park.
