Pie aficionados browse the offerings at a previous pie-baking contest event.

One of Manitou Springs’ favorite annual events is on the horizon: the Summertime Ice Cream Social and Pie-Baking Contest. It will take place Monday, July 3, in Soda Springs Park’s Bud Ford Pavilion.

Bakers can drop off their pies 4-4:30 p.m. that day, and judging begins at 5 p.m. As always, competitors are divided into two divisions, adults and kids aged 14 and younger. Prizes will be awarded in each division.

Each participant should make two identical pies, one for the judges and one for the hungry crowd. They should be fruit and/or nut pies — no dairy products allowed.

The pie and ice cream will be offered starting at 5:30 p.m. Cost is $2 for a scoop and $3 for a slice.
