Matthew Barton’s second trial has been postponed until May 2023. The former Manitou Springs High School teacher and soccer coach is accused of sexually assaulting a 16-year-old student starting in 2009.
Jurors could not reach a unanimous verdict in the first trial.
According to the Colorado Judicial Branch’s online docket, Barton’s jury trial is scheduled to start Monday, May 8.
Barton left MSHS in 2011. If he is found guilty, he would face a mandatory eight- to 24-year prison sentence, up to a potential life sentence.
