FDA approval could allay fears about coronavirus vaccine

After the Food and Drug Administration approved the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine for people aged 16 and older on Monday, Aug. 23, Gov. Jared Polis urged Coloradans to get the safe, effective COVID-19 vaccine.

It will be marketed as Comirnaty.

โ€œThis remains a pandemic of the unvaccinated and we know that the Delta variant has threatened our progress, our economy and way of life, and the FDA approval of the vaccine is a step forward,โ€ Polis said.

It has been nine months since the vaccine was made available and more than 3.5 million Coloradans have received at least one dose and 3.2 million are fully immunized. As of Aug. 23, 6,852,979 doses have been administered in Colorado.

El Paso County has experienced 927 deaths from COVID-19 as of Tuesday, Aug. 24. Residents of the 80829 ZIP code have taken 6,000 tests, which have revealed 417 positive results.
