Letter to the Editor: Candidate wants laws to prevent gun violence

The news out of Evergreen is heartbreaking. My thoughts are with the students, families, and staff impacted by this horrific shooting. No child should have to run from gunfire on their way to class. No parent should have to wait in fear to find out if their child is safe.

Let me be clear: this is not normal, and it is not acceptable.

We do not have to live like this. The constant cycle of thoughts and prayers without action is a failure of leadership. We need universal background checks, safe storage laws, and serious limits on weapons of war in our communities. We need to treat gun violence like the public health crisis it is.

Our children are watching. It’s time for courage, not silence. I will never stop fighting for the safety of Colorado’s families.
