Colorado Media Group founder and publisher Dirk Hobbs announced in a publisher’s note in the latest edition of his business magazine the Southern Colorado Business Forum & Digest that the publication once known as the Colorado Springs Independent (widely known as the Indy) that he recently purchased will be relaunched in July – though it will bear little resemblance to its former incarnation as an alt-weekly. It won’t even have the same name.

“The COS Independent will be relaunching July 2025 (sometime after July 4), with a new title, rich content and deep coverage of the Arts, Entertainment, Hospitality, Attractions, Events, Sports, and Outdoor Lifestyle scene,” Hobbs wrote. “Readers will be ‘in the know’ on all events, concerts, fun places to go, where to escape, the best places to relax, eat, drink, enjoy your Colorado lifestyle and so much more …”

The in-depth, often-gritty news reporting that characterized the Indy of old will not be a part of the new publication.

Colorado Media Group currently publishes NORTH Magazine, the Southern Colorado Business Forum & Digest, as well as a terrestrial radio show and YouTube/podcast series and a television business series on KXRM called Fox21 Business Insider.

The Colorado Springs Business Journal, which Hobbs acquired along with the COS Independent, has been folded into the Southern Colorado Business Forum & Digest – the most recent edition has a Business Journal icon on the cover with a banner that reads “A Legacy Carried Forward.” In the publisher’s note, Hobbs wrote, “For those of you who were subscribers to the Colorado Springs Business Journal, we welcome you! You will find several familiar faces inside this edition who covered news topics for the CSBJ. They are now a part of our CO Media Group family.”
