Hi there, My name is Judy Carnick. My neighbors know me as the “the woman who waves and walks the hills every day.” I have my own business. I also volunteer. I believe that volunteering helps others and is good for me. Plus, it’s a great way to meet people!
You may not know me, but I am here to help us (you and I) start a column for everyone.
My purpose in writing this column is for information. That is why it is called Reaching Out. Over and over, I hear: “What can I do? I am so frustrated with the way things are.” How many times have you wished that you had the time or the information or the motivation to help our community or other people you know?
Many organizations would welcome you and appreciate your help.
You just need to get the information and then see what fits your life. Know someone who is basically housebound? Social isolation is deadly. Most people can easily navigate their cell phones to help organizations reach out or check on others. You can help isolated individuals get volunteer information. Then they can get involved if they want to.
Want to meet new people in your community? Want to be inside? Want to do stuff outside? Social groups and groups with specific purposes abound in this community. You just have to know about them and what they do. Example: Do you know about the Manitou Springs Women’s Club? If you’re looking for something wider in scope, stay tuned.
Many groups would love to have you or anyone you know join them. They respect their volunteers and know that your time is not unlimited.
In a nutshell, I will contribute details of my favorite groups. If you want to contribute, I will publish the info you provide. Email me with your choice at Judy@TheCarnicks.com. I will send you a list of info you need to send back. When I get that, I will use this column to share the word.
Please join me in making our community better, helping others and enjoying the process!
