The Manitou Springs girls volleyball team remained undefeated on the season after winning a five-set thriller over Pueblo East on Aug. 31.
The Mustangs (2-0 overall) dropped the first and third sets, putting their backs against the wall on two occasions. They responded to pull out the 23-25, 25-14, 19-25, 25-15, 15-4 win.
The Mustangs had to find a way to keep battling to take down a Class 4A foe, and Katy Vance and Ayla Flett stepped up in a big way.
Vance led the hitting attack with 10 kills on the night and Flett was deadly with her serves, totaling nine aces on 24 attempts. She also tied Norah Jorstad with a team-high 17 digs.
Ashlyn Thomson and Lexi Vigil distributed the ball well, going for 11 and 16 assists, respectively.
The Mustangs hope to extend their winning streak to three matches as they host Dolores Huerta on Thursday, Sept. 2.
