The Manitou Springs girls soccer team got its first win of the season in a big way. The Mustangs shook off the cold and the rain to beat Thomas MacLaren 11-1 on March 29.

It was the first action for the Mustangs (1-1-1 overall) after their return from spring break. The goals came early and they came often.

Erica Sherwin netted a hat trick, scoring three goals in the game. Julia Mayne and Kara Donegan each added two, while four other players scored once.

Sami Benge-Kulzer had no problem finding teammates in scoring position as she dished out four assists in the game.

The Mustangs hit the road this weekend as they embark on their every-other-year road trip to Colorado’s southwest corner. They’ll face Bayfield on Friday, April 1, and then Pagosa Springs on Saturday, April 2. It’s the start of a five-game road trip for Manitou.

The team will return home on April 14 against Atlas Prep.
