Katie McKiel’s indoor volleyball career at the University of Tampa came to a thrilling conclusion on Dec. 11, when she guided the Spartans to another NCAA Division II national volleyball championship.

McKiel was a part of the Spartans’ 2018 championship team and even had the championship-winning kill.

This time around, she didn’t get the final kill but she was easily a top player for the Spartans. On their home court over the course of three days, McKiel totaled 41 kills and that includes a team-high 16 in the national championship match, a 3-0 victory over Washburn.

She ends her indoor volleyball career with 1,654 kills, which puts her at No. 3 all-time for the Spartans.

As a high school standout at Manitou, McKiel helped the Mustangs make the state volleyball tournament in all four seasons she played. They were the state runner-up in 2013 and made the Final 4 in 2014.

According to MaxPreps, she totaled 1,588 kills in her career, including a staggering 529 in 2014, her junior season.

She has also helped the Spartans claim two AVCA beach volleyball national championships. She’ll return to the beach team this spring looking for her third beach national title and fifth overall national championship.
