Sept. 6

At 0432 hours, the Manitou Springs Police Department responded to the report of a disturbance in the 900 block of Manitou Avenue. The business owners said that someone was trespassing and asked for the person to be escorted away. The officers learned that the suspect had a misdemeanor warrant from Teller County that was personal-recognizance bondable. The person was served a new court date and released.

Officers responded to a motel in the 100 block of Manitou Avenue after receiving a check-the-welfare request for a suicidal person. They contacted the person and, after hearing several suicidal statements, placed the person on a mental health hold.

Sept. 7

At 0104 hours, MSPD was notified of a possible disturbance on westbound U.S. Highway 24. Officers located the disturbance in the 700 block of Manitou Avenue and met with a person who reported an assault by another person, who had left the scene. Some suspect information was provided and the investigation continues.

At 0156 hours, officers learned of a hit-and-run accident in the 100 block of Manitou Avenue. They obtained the suspect vehicle description and were able to locate it in the 300 block of Manitou Avenue. After investigating the driver, they arrested the person for leaving the scene of an accident and driving under the influence of alcohol. The suspect was cited and released.

MSPD responded to the 5000 block of Academy Boulevard regarding a person abusing the 911 system. Upon arrival, officers served a summons to the suspect and warned the person to not call 911 unless it’s an actual emergency.

At 0715 hours, officers responded to a traffic accident in front of City Hall. A woman struck the curb on the north side of the street, causing heavy front-end damage to her vehicle.

A theft was reported in the 900 block of Manitou Avenue at 0723 hours. The male suspect was cited and released.

At 1418 hours, officers responded to a theft in the 900 block of Osage Avenue. One of the involved people was cited and released.

Officers contacted a man in a parking lot in the 100 block of Manitou Avenue after learning he was wanted for multiple felony warrants. He was arrested and transported to the El Paso County Criminal Justice Center.

Sept. 8

MSPD responded to assist El Paso County deputies with a man trespassing on private property in the 3400 block of West Colorado Avenue. He was found to have a felony warrant from the Colorado Department of Corrections and was taken into custody. He was booked into CJC.

Property found in Soda Springs Park was turned in.

At 1904 hours, officers were dispatched to the 3000 block of West Colorado Avenue on a check-the-welfare request. Once there, they located a man who appeared to be under the influence of drugs. MSPD spoke to him and, after gaining permission to search him, they found narcotics. They later learned he had a local misdemeanor warrant and took him into custody.

Sept. 9

Officers observed a suspicious vehicle in a parking lot in the 200 block of Manitou Avenue at 0304 hours. The MSPD is investigating it as a possible stolen vehicle.

A person with six local felony warrants was contacted for a disturbance in the 100 block of Manitou Avenue.

MSPD responded to a disturbance in the 100 block of Manitou Avenue. After investigating, officers determined there was no criminal violation, but located two people with active warrants. One suspect was booked into CJC and the other was released on a personal recognizance bond.

A motorcycle and its trailer were reported stolen from the 100 block of Manitou Avenue. MSPD continues looking for suspect information, and the motorcycle’s details have been entered in a national crime database.

Sept. 10

A man reported that his ex-wife broke into his camper in the 300 block of Manitou Avenue. She left court paperwork on his bed and stole his dog. The investigation is ongoing.

The MSPD responded to the report of a man trespassing in the 1300 block of Manitou Avenue. He was having an unknown medical emergency and was transported to a local hospital. While searching his property before transport, officers found an illegal substance, which was seized for destruction.

At 1950 hours, a woman reported her boyfriend had damaged her property in the 100 block of Waltham before leaving the scene. A warrant is being sought for his arrest.

Suspecting the driver was under the influence of drugs, officers stopped a vehicle in the 300 block of Manitou Avenue at 2314 hours. After an investigation, the driver was taken into custody and refused chemical testing. The suspect also gave a false name and was found to have an out-of-county felony warrant. The suspect was booked into CJC.

Sept. 11

A bicycle was reported stolen in the 300 block of Manitou Avenue. The owner left his bike outside a business for about one minute and discovered the bicycle was missing when he returned. The business is attempting to retrieve surveillance footage to help identify the suspect.

At 1810 hours, officers contacted a person in the 200 block of Elk Path who was found to have a local misdemeanor warrant. A personal recognizance bond was served and the person was given a new court date.

MSPD were dispatched to the 00 block of Arapahoe Place after a suicidal person in a vehicle was reported. The officers were unable to locate the person; the reporting party said the person was likely withdrawing from fentanyl. After interviewing the reporting party, MSPD discovered the fentanyl matches what the Vice and Narcotics Unit has been reporting. A case report was created to document the incident.

Sept. 12

Officers responded to a domestic violence call in the 400 block of El Paso Boulevard. The reporting party alleged her husband was performing sexual acts on her without her permission. She was transported to a local hospital for a SANE/SART exam (sexual assault nurse examiner/sexual assault response team).

MSPD responded to a domestic issue in the 200 block of Elk Path.

At 2214 hours, officers responded to a medical call for service in the 100 block of Manitou Avenue. They identified the reporting party and a check revealed the person had a warrant for obstructing justice/failure to appear. The suspect was arrested.

COURT UPDATE

According to the Colorado Judicial Branch’s online docket,  Landon Johnston, who is accused of vandalizing Crystal Valley Cemetery, is due to be arraigned Thursday, Oct. 21.

Jacob Carley, the Manitou police officer accused of sending revenge porn, is scheduled for a pre-trial readiness conference on Wednesday, Sept. 29. His jury trial is scheduled to begin Thursday, Oct. 7.

Ashlynne Perez, charged with criminally negligent child abuse resulting in death, is due in court Tuesday, Oct. 12, for her pre-trial conference and Thursday, Dec. 9, for a review hearing. Charges against her husband, Carlos Perez, have been dropped.

Their 4-year-old son accidentally shot himself in the head July 6 outside a Manitou business.

Freddie Crespo is scheduled for a sentencing hearing on Friday, Dec. 3, in the May 2019 death of Jimmie Baker in downtown Manitou Springs.
