July 18
Manitou Springs Police officers were patrolling near U.S. Highway 24 and Ridge Road and encountered a homeless person, who was arrested on local felony warrants.
July 19
At 0718 hours, MSPD stopped a vehicle in the 500 block of Manitou Avenue. The driver had a local misdemeanor warrant and was cited, served and released.
Officers contacted a person wanted on a local felony warrant in the 400 block of Manitou Avenue at 0952 hours. The suspect was taken into custody and transported to the El Paso County Criminal Justice Center.
Fraudulent credit card activity was reported in the 1300 block of Manitou Avenue. The investigation will continue.
MSPD received a trespassing report in the Crystal Valley neighborhood. Upon arrival, officers contacted a person attempting to flee to the nearby woods. They detained him and found a small amount of presumed methamphetamine in his possession. He was cited and released.
July 20
Officers observed a vehicle with no visible registration that was being driven over the speed limit. They stopped it on westbound Highway 24 at mile marker 298 and discovered its temporary license plate was fictitious. MSPD discovered it was a rental car and its actual license plate was hidden under a seat. It also had aftermarket wheels. The situation was suspicious and seemed to indicate it was an unreported stolen vehicle. It was impounded and the driver was cited and released.
Theft of items from multiple vehicles in the 100 block of Manitou Avenue was reported.
Officers contacted two people about illegally camping in the 1300 block of Serpentine Drive. While talking to the suspects, they learned the woman was in violation of a protection order. She was taken into custody and booked into CJC.
MSPD was asked to check the welfare of a person in poor health who had missed a medical appointment. Upon arriving in the 600 block of High Street, officers discovered the person was deceased.
Officers responded to a traffic accident in the 900 block of Manitou Avenue. No one was injured.
Theft of personal belongings, including cash and identity documentation, was reported in the 00 block of Ruxton Avenue. Little suspect information is available, but the investigation is ongoing.
MSPD responded to a cold report of domestic violence in the 00 block of El Paso Boulevard. Officers contacted the victim and determined that a protection order had been violated; a warrant has been issued for the suspect.
A disturbance was reported in the 900 block of Manitou Avenue. The responding officers found that a woman had assaulted a man; one of his friends had then struck her. The woman was charged with battery.
July 21
Officers patrolling transient camps near Manitou Avenue and Highway 24 located a person with a local misdemeanor warrant. The suspect was transported to CJC.
MSPD assisted an outside agency in responding to a drug overdose reported in Chipita Park. A woman was transported to a local hospital.
July 22
Officers responded to a non-injury traffic accident at the Cog Railway involving a pickup truck and a Metropolitan Transit bus. After an investigation, the truck driver was cited and released.
MSPD stopped a vehicle at Crystal Park Road and Manitou Avenue. The driver was found to be under the influence of drugs and was in possession of amphetamines. The suspect was taken into custody, cited and released.
Officers responded to a domestic violence in progress reported in the 300 block of Oklahoma Road. The report was unfounded.
A domestic violence incident was reported in the 1100 block of Manitou Avenue. Officers found nothing criminal, but they arrested one of the involved people on local misdemeanor warrants.
At 1535 hours, MSPD found a person wanted on a local misdemeanor warrant near the intersection of Highway 24 and Manitou Avenue. The suspect was arrested and taken to CJC.
COURT UPDATE
Former Manitou Springs High school teacher Timothy Hilt is scheduled to be sentenced in person on Thursday, Sept. 1, according to the Colorado Judicial Branch’s online docket. He pled guilty to two counts of sexual assault on a child by a person in a position of trust.
Matthew Barton, another former MSHS teacher accused of sexual assault on a student, is scheduled for a review hearing on Tuesday, Aug. 9, and a pre-trial readiness conference on Tuesday, Oct. 4. His jury trial is set to start Monday, Oct. 10.
