July 4
While patrolling in the 31st Street/Ore Mill Road area, Manitou Springs Police officers saw a vehicle with altered registration. They stopped the vehicle and discovered the driver had an out-of-county misdemeanor warrant and a revoked driver’s license. The suspect was taken into custody and transported to the El Paso County Criminal Justice Center. While inventorying the vehicle before it was impounded, the officers found suspected methamphetamine paraphernalia. The driver was cited on that charge.
July 5
MSPD was patrolling the 3100 block of West Colorado Avenue when officers contacted several people in a business parking lot. One was found to have a local misdemeanor warrant, and was taken into custody and booked into CJC.
At 0500 hours, officers responded to a domestic violence incident in the 100 block of Manitou Avenue. After investigating, they did not find evidence for any charges. However, a man involved in the incident lied about his identity and was found to have numerous local felony warrants. He was taken into custody and booked into CJC on the false reporting charge, along with the warrants.
Officers saw a man known to have local felony warrants sitting in his vehicle, which was parked in a motel lot in the 00 block of Manitou Avenue. They arrested him.
MSPD responded to a business in the 100 block of Manitou after someone called in an anonymous threat regarding a possible robbery the next day. The officers were unable to further investigate the threat, but took preventative measures in preparation for a possible crime.
July 6
Officers responded to a cold vehicular trespass in the Hiawatha Gardens parking lot. There is no suspect information and nothing was stolen.
Trespassing and sounds of items breaking were reported at an abandoned motel in the 100 block of Manitou Avenue. MSPD contacted two people at the back of the motel and received property taken from the motel, as well as drugs and paraphernalia. A 6-month-old baby was at the scene and the El Paso County Department of Human Services was contacted.
Officers responded to a harassment in progress in the 900 block of Manitou Avenue. They found that one person had a local misdemeanor warrant, and the suspect was taken to CJC.
July 7
MSPD stopped a vehicle for multiple traffic offenses at Old Man’s Trail and Manitou Avenue. Officers suspected the driver was under the influence of alcohol and investigated on scene; the driver was arrested for DUI.
July 8
Officers conducted a patrol check in the 100 block of Manitou Avenue. A man was found to have multiple local felony warrants; he was taken into custody and booked at CJC.
July 9
MSPD responded to a disturbance in the 700 block of Manitou Avenue, where an assault was reported.
At 1004 hours, officers went to the 400 block of El Paso Boulevard to check a person’s welfare. A woman there has a history of falsely reporting crimes and was given a summons.
A vehicle parked in the 300 block of Beckers Lane had a backpack visible in the front seat. The front passenger window was broken and the backpack, which had several electronic devices inside, was taken. There is no suspect information.
July 10
At 0430 hours, officers responded to a domestic violence in progress in the 100 block of Poplar Place. After investigating, they arrested a woman for domestic violence-related charges and booked her into CJC.
MSPD responded to a traffic accident on U.S. Highway 24 and Cave of the Winds Road. One vehicle had left the scene; a “be on the lookout” alert was issued. The driver still on scene was cited for reckless driving.
Officers recovered an unoccupied stolen vehicle in the 00 block of El Paso Boulevard. They were unable to find suspect information and the vehicle has been impounded.
MSPD is investigating a forced-entry burglary at a residence in the 200 block of Santa Fe Place.
COURT UPDATE
Former Manitou Springs High school teacher Timothy Hilt is scheduled to be sentenced in person on Thursday, Sept. 1, according to the Colorado Judicial Branch’s online docket. He pled guilty to two counts of sexual assault on a child by a person in a position of trust.
Matthew Barton, another former MSHS teacher accused of sexual assault on a student, is scheduled for a motions hearing Tuesday, July 19. A pre-trial readiness conference is scheduled for Tuesday, Oct. 4, and his jury trial is set to start Monday, Oct. 10.
