June 27

Manitou Springs Police officers located a suspicious vehicle at North 31st and Valley streets and thought it might be an unreported stolen vehicle. The officers tried all possible ways to contact the registered owner but were unsuccessful. The vehicle was impounded for multiple violations.

MSPD responded to a vehicle, which had been tagged as abandoned for 11 days, at Cañon Avenue and Glen Road. It was towed to the impound lot.

A domestic violence in progress was reported in the 00 block of Manitou Avenue. Manitou officers found that an assault had occurred and a warrant was issued for the suspect.

MSPD responded to a domestic violence reported in the 100 block of Poplar Place. It was determined to be unfounded, but a case report was taken.

Officers were dispatched to a business in the 100 block of Manitou Avenue, where a possible assault was alleged to have occurred. While driving to the scene, the officers contacted the suspect; he was cited for harassment and released.

Manitou officers contacted a man after seeing him with a fire in a business parking lot in the 3100 block of West Colorado Avenue. After identifying him, they learned he had a local misdemeanor warrant. He was taken into custody and booked into the El Paso County Criminal Justice Center.

June 28

MSPD responded to a traffic accident involving a bicycle and a vehicle in the 100 block of Manitou Avenue. No major injuries occurred.

Officers stopped a vehicle with no license plate in the 500 block of Manitou Avenue. After contacting the driver, they learned he had no license, no registration and no insurance. He was cited for criminal traffic violations and the vehicle was impounded.

MSPD responded to the report of an abandoned vehicle that had been parked in the 00 block of Grant Avenue for approximately nine days. The vehicle was impounded.

June 29

Officers contacted a man in a vehicle with an expired temporary tag near U.S. Highway 24 and Ridge Road. After learning he had an out-of-county misdemeanor warrant, he was taken into custody and booked into CJC.

While patrolling the 100 block of Manitou Avenue, Manitou officers observed a vehicle being driven in an erratic manner. After stopping it, they began to suspect the driver was under the influence of alcohol. Roadside testing was completed and the suspect was taken into custody before a chemical sample was collected.

MSPD found a credit card; it has been placed in found property.

At 1700 hours, officers stopped a vehicle at westbound Highway 24 and Hagerman Avenue. The male driver was found to have multiple local misdemeanor warrants and was taken into custody, then booked into CJC.

MSPD located graffiti in a Soda Springs Park restroom at 2300 hours. The suspect is unknown.

June 30

Officers collected property found in the 700 block of Manitou Avenue; it has been placed into safekeeping.

MSPD responded to a report of domestic violence in progress in the 00 block of El Paso Boulevard. Officers investigated while on scene and arrested a woman on charges including simple assault, cruelty toward a child and harassment.

A wallet was found downtown and turned in to MSPD. The owner has not been identified and it has been secured in found property.

At 2115 hours, officers responded to a check-the-welfare request in the 1300 block of Manitou Avenue. They discovered that a protection order had been violated and a warrant was issued for the suspect.

July 1

MSPD responded to a non-injury traffic accident in the 1000 block of Manitou Avenue. After an investigation, the driver at fault was cited and released.

July 2

Officers were approached in the 100 block of Manitou Avenue about a harassment that had just occurred. A woman reported that an unknown man had harassed and followed her. She decided not to press charges.

MSPD stopped a vehicle with expired registration in the 400 block of Manitou Avenue. The officers observed the driver seemed impaired due to alcohol and conducted roadside maneuvers. The woman was arrested for DUI.

Someone driving through the Wichita parking lot, 700 block of Manitou Avenue, ran over a woman’s foot. All involved parties remained on scene and MSPD determined that nothing criminal had occurred.

July 3

A vehicle weaving across lane lines on eastbound Highway 24 was stopped near mile marker 300. Officers investigated on scene and arrested the male driver for DUI.

MSPD contacted a transient near the intersection of West Colorado Avenue and Ridge Road. He was arrested on a local misdemeanor warrant.

COURT UPDATE

Former Manitou Springs High school teacher Timothy Hilt is scheduled to be sentenced on Thursday, Sept. 1, according to the Colorado Judicial Branch’s online docket. He pled guilty to two counts of sexual assault on a child by a person in a position of trust.

Matthew Barton, another former MSHS teacher accused of sexual assault on a student, is scheduled for a motions hearing Tuesday, July 19. A pre-trial readiness conference is scheduled for Tuesday, Oct. 4, and his jury trial is set to start Monday, Oct. 10.
