Aug. 22

At 1244 hours, Manitou Springs Police officers stopped a vehicle in the 100 block of Crystal Park Road and arrested the driver for driving under the influence of drugs.

Aug. 23

A found wallet was left overnight at the MSPD information window.

At 1716 hours, officers responded to a hit-and-run accident in the 400 block of El Monte Place. Suspect information is limited and the vehicle damage was minimal.

Officers responded to the 00 block of El Paso Boulevard at 2308 hours after a caller requested a welfare check for a possibly suicidal person. They determined medical attention was needed for the person, who was transported to a hospital. 

Aug. 24

Criminal mischief was reported at a trailer park in the 00 block of El Paso Boulevard, where a resident’s mailbox was forcibly opened. A case report was taken.

A woman was reported to be standing outside a home, with a weapon, in the 300 block of Clarksley Road. MSPD determined it was a broken BB gun and the woman was outside sorting through her belongings. The non-functional weapon was taken to be destroyed.

An incident involving illegal contraband — narcotics equipment — was reported at Manitou Springs Middle School.

Aug. 25

Officers took a report about cold fraud by computer in the 00 block of El Paso Boulevard. The victim’s bank will complete the primary investigation.

MSPD responded to the middle school after a call regarding marijuana possession and activity.

At 1553 hours, officers stopped a vehicle in the 100 block of El Paso Boulevard and the driver was arrested for being under the influence of drugs.

MSPD responded to a suicidal check-the-welfare request at 2121 hours. A man took a firearm from his roommate in the 100 block of El Paso Boulevard and sent suicidal messages to multiple people. He was located, taken into custody and transported to a hospital for a mental health hold. He was also charged with stealing the firearm.

A wallet found on Cañon Avenue was turned in at the police station.

A key found in Soda Springs Park was turned in to MSPD.

Aug. 26

Officers contacted a person with multiple local felony warrants who possessed a stolen vehicle in the 800 block of Manitou Avenue. The vehicle may be connected to other theft cases.

MSPD stopped a man driving a golf cart in the 700 block of Manitou Avenue and took him into custody for a felony warrant. Later, officers discovered that the golf cart was stolen and used to commit several burglaries in Manitou. Several stolen items were recovered and new charges were issued.

Officers learned about found property, an old-model shotgun which appeared to have sustained irreparable damage on Pikes Peak. The gun had not been reported stolen or missing, and is being held in safekeeping.

A non-injury traffic accident was reported in the 00 block of El Paso Boulevard. When officers arrived, both vehicles had moved off the roadway. The accident was documented and both vehicles were driven away.

At 1810 hours, officers responded to a disturbance outside the police department; a man was chasing another man. After an investigation, a suspect was located and found to have local felony warrants. He was taken into custody and booked into the El Paso County Criminal Justice Center.

A motorcycle was reported stolen from the 00 block of Grand Avenue at 1749 hours. The suspected thief dropped it off at the police station after it was reported stolen. The suspect was located, cited and released.

At 2140 hours in the 00 block of Manitou Avenue, officers contacted a person suspected of trespassing. The suspect had three felony warrants and one misdemeanor warrant from El Paso County, and was booked into CJC.

Aug. 27

MSPD responded to a domestic violence report in the 300 block of Manitou Avenue at 0037 hours. Upon arrival, officers saw a large amount of blood outside the front door. They contacted people inside the residence, but all denied any criminal activity. A report was taken.

Officers responded to a traffic accident with vehicle damage on U.S. Highway 24 near Serpentine Drive.

At 2311 hours, an MSPD officer attempted to stop a vehicle in the 100 block of Manitou Avenue. The vehicle was seen leaving a known high-crime area. After the officer activated his vehicle lights, the driver sped off and eluded the MSPD vehicle. The pursuit was terminated.

Aug. 28

While patrolling a motel in the 100 block of Manitou Avenue, officers attempted to contact a driver for a minor traffic violation. The driver drove away and the pursuit was terminated for safety reasons. The officers have developed leads about who the likely suspect was.

A theft was reported at the Cog Railway station in the 500 block of Ruxton Avenue.

At 2005 hours, officers responded to a disturbance in the 700 block of Manitou Avenue. Once on scene, they located and interviewed the victim; the suspect was located in the 600 block of Manitou Avenue and detained. The suspect was charged with third-degree assault.

Aug. 29

A traffic accident with injury occurred near mile marker 296 on Highway 24; MSPD responded at 0012 hours. The accident occurred outside city limits, so the Colorado State Patrol handled the investigation. The driver was suspected to be under the influence of alcohol and drugs, and was taken to a hospital by ambulance.

COURT UPDATE

According to the Colorado Judicial Branch’s online docket,  Landon Johnston,  who is accused of vandalizing Crystal Valley Cemetery, is due to be arraigned Thursday, Sept. 9.

Ashlynne Perez, charged with criminally negligent child abuse resulting in death, is due in court Tuesday, Sept. 7, for her pre-trial conference and Thursday, Sept. 9, for a review hearing. Her husband, Carlos Perez, is scheduled for a pre-trial conference on Sept. 7; his trial is set to begin Tuesday, Nov. 30.

Their 4-year-old son accidentally shot himself in the head July 6 outside a Manitou business.

Freddie Crespo is scheduled for a conference on Tuesday, Sept. 7. His trial will begin Tuesday, Sept. 14, in the May 2019 death of Jimmie Baker in downtown Manitou Springs.

Jacob Carley, the Manitou police officer accused of sending revenge porn, is scheduled for a pre-trial readiness conference on Wednesday, Sept. 29. His jury trial is scheduled to begin Thursday, Oct. 7.
