June 20
Manitou Springs Police officers stopped a vehicle at Manitou Avenue and Crystal Hills Boulevard. The driver was found to be under the influence of drugs and was cited for DUID. A passenger had local misdemeanor warrants.
MSPD responded to a criminal trespass-in-progress report in the 1200 block of Manitou Avenue. The suspect was taken into custody and cited with trespassing.
Officers responded to the 1200 block of Manitou Avenue after a report of criminal mischief related to domestic violence. They investigated, but found insufficient evidence and no charges were filed.
June 21
At 0301 hours, MSPD responded to a business alarm in the 00 block of Manitou Avenue. Once on scene, the officers found a broken window. The building was cleared, the owners were contacted and items were discovered to be missing. The next day, MSPD followed up and obtained suspect information. A search warrant was executed on the suspect’s residence and the stolen property was recovered. The suspect was taken into custody and booked into the El Paso County Criminal Justice Center.
MSPD contacted two people who were trespassing on private property in the 100 block of Manitou Avenue. They were cited.
June 22
Officers discovered an illegal camp near Garden Drive and Black Canyon Road. A man there was found with stolen items, which were seized. He was cited for illegal camping, littering and theft.
MSPD responded to a traffic accident involving a parked motorcycle near Pawnee and Manitou avenues. No one was injured.
A man was reported to be inside a second-floor room, breaking windows, at a closed motel in the 100 block of Manitou Avenue. Officers arrived on scene and saw furniture and broken glass in the parking lot. They found a man inside the damaged room and took him into custody on charges of burglary, criminal mischief and trespassing.
June 23
MSPD officers responded to fraud reports in the 100 block of Manitou Avenue. When they arrived, they were given two counterfeit $10 bills. They were placed into evidence; there is no suspect information at this time.
At 1250 hours, officers responded to a burglary report in the 200 block of Iron Road. The homeowner was away, but was watching her security footage. While MSPD was en route to the address, the owner reported that a truck had just pulled into her property. Officers arrived and took the suspect into custody on a felony warrant and the new charges.
A fraud was reported in the 00 block of Manitou Avenue. When MSPD arrived on scene, they were given a fake I.D. and investigated the incident.
MSPD received reports of a man trespassing on private property in the 1200 block of Manitou Avenue. When the officers arrived, they contacted the suspect; after investigating, they cited him for trespassing.
Officers responded to an accident involving a bicyclist and a vehicle. Minor abrasions were sustained, but both people refused medical treatment.
At 2115 hours, a traffic accident occurred on eastbound U.S. Highway 24 at mile marker 299. The vehicle’s occupants were not injured.
June 24
MSPD responded to assist the Manitou Springs Fire Department with a medical call in the 600 block of High Street at 2214 hours. A welfare check had been requested for one of the home’s occupants. The El Paso County Department of Human Services was contacted.
June 25
Officers contacted a man armed with a machete who was yelling at people downtown. He was found to have a local felony warrant and was transported to CJC.
MSPD stopped in the 100 block of Manitou Avenue to check on a man sleeping in a vehicle with a blown-out tire. As the officers approached the vehicle, they noted a pipe, lighter and foil with black residue. They searched the vehicle, but didn’t find any drugs; the driver was issued a citation.
As of June 25, MSPD was still investigating a fraud incident that was reported June 17 in the 00 block of El Paso Boulevard.
Officers contacted a man sleeping in a vehicle on private property near Washington Avenue and Sheridan Place. He was identified and was found to have a revoked driver’s license. The license was seized and the man was informed of the city ordinance against camping.
MSPD was dispatched to a traffic accident involving a city bus in the 500 block of Ruxton Avenue. When officers arrived on scene, they investigated and then cleared the scene.
June 26
Officers responded to a fight outside a bar in the 900 block of Manitou Avenue. After separating all people involved, they investigated. Ultimately, the victims declined to press charges.
MSPD contacted a man near the intersection of West Colorado Avenue and Ridge Road. He was found to have a failure-to-appear warrant and was booked into CJC. During the booking process, the suspect attempted to introduce contraband into the jail. He was booked on the additional charges.
A wallet was found in the 700 block of Manitou Avenue and has been secured for safekeeping.
COURT UPDATE
Former Manitou Springs High school teacher Timothy Hilt is scheduled to be sentenced on Thursday, Sept. 1, according to the Colorado Judicial Branch’s online docket. He pled guilty to two counts of sexual assault on a child by a person in a position of trust.
Matthew Barton, another former MSHS teacher accused of sexual assault on a student, is scheduled for a motions hearing Tuesday, July 19. A pre-trial readiness conference is scheduled for Tuesday, Oct. 4, and his jury trial is set to start Monday, Oct. 10.
