June 13
At 2309 hours, Manitou Springs Police officers stopped a vehicle near West Colorado Avenue and Columbia Road. The driver was found to have a local misdemeanor warrant, and was taken into custody and booked into the El Paso County Criminal Justice Center.
During a traffic stop at Manitou Avenue and Beckers Lane, officers saw illicit narcotics in the vehicle. While searching it, they located a felony amount of methamphetamine; the driver was charged with possession.
June 14
At 0424 hours, officers located an abandoned vehicle at mile marker 298.5 on U.S. Highway 24. It has been impounded.
In the 3400 block of West Colorado Avenue, MSPD contacted a person with multiple local misdemeanor warrants. The suspect was given a personal recognizance bond and released.
Officers were on routine patrol in the area of Spring Street and Ruxton Avenue when they encountered a person with multiple out-of-county felony warrants. The suspect was taken into custody and transported to CJC.
MSPD responded to a residence in the 300 block of Terrace Place to remove drug paraphernalia.
A bicycle parked at the Intemann Trail trailhead in Crystal Valley Cemetery prompted a call to check the welfare of a possibly missing or injured person. Officers found no evidence to indicate a distressed person on or near the trail.
June 15
Officers responded to a hit-and-run accident in the 500 block of High Street. The vehicle was parked and unattended when a passing vehicle damaged it; the suspect driver has not been identified.
At 0250 hours, MSPD responded to a suicide attempt in the 400 block of El Paso Boulevard. Emergency medical services assessed the person, who was transported to a local hospital under a mental health hold.
Officers contacted a woman camping illegally under the bridge at 31st Street and Highway 24. She was found to have a local misdemeanor warrant, and was taken into custody and booked into CJC. She also was cited for trespassing.
A Manitou officer on routine patrol in the 2900 block of Robinson Street encountered a person with a local felony warrant. The suspect was issued a new court date and released.
June 16
At 2000 hours, officers located an abandoned vehicle in the 300 block of Beckers Lane. MSPD attempted to contact the owner; the vehicle has been impounded.
June 17
A vehicle struck a mailbox in the 200 block of Manitou Avenue. Minor damage was visible and all available information was noted.
Officers received found property at the police station.
MSPD was dispatched to the site of reported drug activity in the 400 block of Plainview Place, where officers located several used needles. They were collected to be destroyed.
Officers stopped a vehicle in the 200 block of Manitou Avenue for traffic violations. The driver was arrested on local misdemeanor and out-of-county felony warrants.
MSPD responded to a minor accident in a business parking lot in the 100 block of Manitou Avenue at 1440 hours. No one was injured, and information was exchanged.
At 1820 hours, a disturbance was reported in the 00 block of Mountain View, where a man was experiencing a mental crisis. The El Paso County Behavioral Health United arrived to assist with treatment options. He was deemed to be capable of coherent decision-making and was allowed to stay home.
A person in the 800 block of Duclo Avenue reported they might have been drugged. The alleged victim told MSPD a friend had placed something in a drink, and said the drink tasted like chemicals and made their tongue numb. The drink was taken as evidence and will be submitted for testing. The victim was advised to take a drug test at a hospital.
June 18
Officers responded to a public restroom in the 900 block of Manitou Avenue after a possible sexual assault in progress was reported. Upon arrival, they located a woman who had locked herself in the restroom and was refusing any help, but she was alone. MSPD later received another call about the same person and determined that, for her safety, she should be transported to a hospital.
A woman in the Old Crystal Park Road area reported that her son said a family member had been showering with him and touching him inappropriately. MSPD is investigating.
A cold burglary was reported at a business in the 300 block of Manitou Avenue. Between 1300 hours and 2030 hours, a safe was stolen from the owner’s residence. Officers documented the scene and interviewed the victim; the investigation is ongoing.
June 19
At 0244 hours, officers located an active structure fire in the 100 block of Manitou Avenue. The Manitou Springs Fire Department arrived and extinguished it. It is believed to be arson, but no suspect information is available.
COURT UPDATE
Former Manitou Springs High school teacher Timothy Hilt is scheduled to be sentenced on Thursday, Sept. 1, according to the Colorado Judicial Branch’s online docket. He was accused of sexually assaulting a student.
Matthew Barton, another former MSHS teacher accused of sexual assault on a student, is scheduled for a motions hearing Tuesday, July 19. A pre-trial readiness conference is scheduled for Tuesday, Oct. 4, and his jury trial is set to start Monday, Oct. 10.
