May 30
At approximately 3:14 a.m., officers responded to a report of a suspicious incident in which a woman was knocking on different residents’ doors in the 300 block of Ruxton Avenue. Officers determined she was having a mental health crisis and was gravely disabled. She was transported to a hospital for a medical hold.
Manitou Springs police officers stopped a vehicle at the on-ramp to West U.S. Highway 24 from Manitou Avenue. The vehicle had no registration and the driver’s license was suspended. The vehicle was towed and the driver was issued a summons.
Officers conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle at West Colorado Avenue and Ridge Road. The driver was cited for having fictitious plates and multiple traffic violations.
Police responded to a traffic accident at West Highway 24 and Manitou Avenue. A vehicle had rear-ended another after following too closely. A summons was issued and the accident cleared.
At approximately 7:19 p.m., officers responded to a report of a domestic violence in progress in the 00 block. Following an investigation, police took both involved suspects into custody and booked them into the El Paso County Criminal Justice Center on domestic-related charges.
Officers responded to a rollover traffic accident on eastbound Highway 24. The driver had only minor injuries and refused medical attention. The driver was arrested on suspicion of DUI and was later cited and released.
May 31
Officers were given found property that is now being held in safekeeping.
Manitou Springs officers were conducting a patrol in the 2900 block of Robinson Street in El Paso County, an area known recently for stolen vehicle recoveries and suspicious vehicles, when they stopped a vehicle and found it was being operated with no registration, no insurance and by a driver with a restrained license. The driver was cited and released, and the vehicle impounded.
A Texas driver’s license was turned in to MSPD after it was found near the base of the Manitou Springs Incline.
A wallet containing a Colorado driver’s license was turned in to MSPD after being found at the zip lines in Manitou Springs.
June 1
Officers observed a vehicle being operated without a license plate on West Colorado Avenue and 32nd Street. After stopping the vehicle, officers found the driver had a restrained license and was unable to provide insurance. The driver was cited and released, and the vehicle towed.
Police responded to a report of domestic violence in progress in 100 block of Spencer Avenue. The persons involved were interviewed, and it was determined the report was unfounded.
Officers responded to a report of a cold theft of a license plate in the 900 block of Midland Avenue. The plate was listed as stolen, and it was documented in a case report.
At approximately 11:42 p.m., officers responded to a criminal trespass in progress in the 100 block of Crystal Park Road. A woman was found to have a misdemeanor warrant issued by a nearby county. She was taken into custody and booked into the CJC without incident.
June 3
Officers were dispatched to a disturbance behind a motel outside the city limits in the 3700 block of West Colorado Avenue. The individuals involved were taken into custody on misdemeanor warrants and booked into the CJC.
MSPD officers were on patrol when they were flagged down in the 900 block of Manitou Avenue by a person who wanted to report a hit-and-run. Officers were able to obtain a license plate for the suspect vehicle, and then tracked down the suspect and issued him a citation.
June 4
Officers were dispatched to a non-injury traffic accident that was blocking traffic in the 00 block of Fountain Place. After investigating, they got the road open and cleared the scene.
After stopping a vehicle at West Colorado Avenue and Ridge Road, officers discovered it had been stolen. They detained the driver and contacted the registered owner. The driver was issued a summons and released, and the vehicle was returned to the owner.
Officers stopped a vehicle at Highway 24 and Ridge Road and found it had been stolen. The driver was taken into custody. Another person arrived to claim the vehicle and was found to have a misdemeanor warrant.
Officers were flagged down regarding a possible unattended death at a motel in the 00 block of Manitou Avenue. An individual was found deceased and released to the El Paso County Coroner’s Office.
Found property was turned in to the police department.
MSPD received a report of the theft of a license plate in the 400 block of Manitou Avenue. No suspect information was available.
June 5
Officers investigated a disturbance near the 500 block of Cañon Avenue.
At approximately 7:28 p.m., officers stopped a vehicle at 31st Street and Morrison Street in El Paso County. The driver was found to have multiple outstanding felony warrants and was taken into custody and booked into the CJC without incident.
COURT UPDATE
The arraignment for former Manitou Springs High school teacher Timothy Hilt was postponed to Thursday, June 9, according to the Colorado Judicial Branch’s online docket. He is accused of sexually assaulting a student.
Matthew Barton, another former MSHS teacher accused of sexual assault on a student, is scheduled for a motions hearing Tuesday, July 19. His jury trial is set to start Monday, Oct. 10.
Ashlynne Perez is due in court for a final hearing Friday, June 17. Her 4-year-old son accidentally shot himself in the head July 6, 2021, outside a Manitou business.
Her husband, Carlos Perez, was scheduled for a pre-trial conference on Tuesday, June 7.
William Weaver, who was convicted of killing his wife, Wendy Cupit, in June 2020, has been sentenced to life in prison.
