May 9
During a traffic stop in the 00 block of Manitou Avenue, Manitou Springs Police officers came in contact with a suspect who had multiple local misdemeanor warrants. She was served a summons and released.
At 0238 hours, officers stopped a vehicle near Manitou and West Colorado avenues and discovered the passenger had multiple local misdemeanor warrants. The suspect was issued a new court date and released on a personal recognizance bond.
MSPD answered a burglary report in the 1000 block of Manitou Avenue. A mentally ill person was found at the scene and transported to a local hospital.
At 1937 hours, officers responded to a theft report from a restaurant in the 300 block of Manitou Avenue. As they were gathering information, the suspect passed by. MSPD contacted the suspect and issued a theft charge.
Officers responded to a cold theft reported in the 700 block of Manitou Avenue. A description of the shoplifting suspect and video evidence were provided, but the suspect has not been apprehended.
May 10
MSPD responded to a traffic accident on westbound U.S. Highway 24 near mile marker 298. After contacting a driver involved, officers began to suspect he was under the influence of alcohol. After roadside testing, the suspect was taken into custody, then cited and released.
Colorado Springs Police Department officers contacted MSPD after a woman made numerous claims of sexual assault, some of which she said occurred in Manitou. An officer and a forensic nurse agreed significant mental health issues seemed to be involved. MSPD is investigating the claims.
Manitou officers responded to the 100 block of Manitou Avenue after receiving a check-the-welfare request. In an unrelated issue, MSPD learned that a transient had broken into a motel room there and was refusing the property owners’ request to leave. The suspect was detained and released with a summons.
At 1911 hours, MSPD responded to a kidnapping report in the 200 block of Manitou Avenue. Once on scene, officers spoke with several people involved and determined that a kidnapping had not occurred. During the investigation, one person was charged with harassment via electronic communication.
Officers observed a vehicle being driven erratically on Highway 24 at 2300 hours. MSPD discovered the license plate did not match the vehicle. The officers stopped the vehicle and cited the driver for fictitious plates, among other charges.
May 11
MSPD stopped a vehicle in the 300 block of Manitou Avenue at 0116 hours and began to suspect the driver was under the influence of drugs. After roadside testing, the driver was taken into custody and a chemical sample collected; the suspect was issued a summons and released.
Officers stopped a vehicle in the 200 block of Manitou Avenue and discovered a person involved was wanted on multiple felony warrants. The suspect was taken into custody and booked into the El Paso County Criminal Justice Center.
At 0118 hours, MSPD began investigating a possibly unreported stolen vehicle in the 300 block of Manitou Avenue. Officers contacted the owner, who confirmed it had been stolen.
Manitou police responded to help fugitive recovery agents search for a wanted person in a home in the 100 block of Crystal Park Road. They discovered that one of the agents committed burglary and assault while trying to capture a suspect, who was not there.
While patrolling on foot near Ridge Road and Highway 24, Manitou officers arrested one person on a local felony warrant.
MSPD responded to a rollover traffic accident at Manitou Avenue and Garden of the Gods Place. A driver had run the red light, striking the other vehicle and causing it to roll. Both drivers had minor injuries. Officers investigated on-scene and found one driver at fault for the accident.
At 2303 hours, officers saw a vehicle speeding in the 400 block of Manitou Avenue. They stopped it and cited the driver for speeding and careless driving.
May 12
MSPD took a report of identity theft in the 700 block of Manitou Avenue.
May 13
The school resource officer referred a case involving a juvenile suspected of cruelty toward a child to another agency.
Officers responded to a harassment report in the 300 block of Manitou Avenue. When they arrived on scene, they noticed a vehicle’s rear window was broken out. MSPD investigated the incident.
May 14
MSPD stopped a vehicle in the 3000 block of West Colorado Avenue and issued the driver a personal recognizance bond for two local misdemeanor warrants. She was given new court dates and released. Also, the license plates were fictitious and were seized as evidence.
Officers responded to a disturbance reported in an unincorporated part of El Paso County. Upon arriving in the 500 block of South 31st Street, they discovered the suspect was driving; the man was taken into custody and transported to CJC.
Someone found a debit card and turned it in; it’s being held as found property.
At 2314 hours, Manitou officers attempted to stop a vehicle in the 3400 block of West Colorado Avenue. The suspect fled on foot and the officers lost sight of him.
May 15
Officers were dispatched to the 00 block of Arapahoe Place regarding a possible domestic violence incident. The situation was resolved with no arrests.
A debit card was found in the downtown area and given to officers. It’s being held in safekeeping.
COURT UPDATE
Former Manitou Springs High school teacher Timothy Hilt is scheduled to be arraigned on Thursday, May 26, according to the Colorado Judicial Branch’s online docket. He is accused of sexually assaulting a student.
Matthew Barton, another former MSHS teacher accused of sexual assault on a student, is scheduled for a motions hearing Tuesday, July 19. His jury trial is set to start Monday, Oct. 10.
Ashlynne Perez is due in court for a final hearing Friday, June 17. Her 4-year-old son accidentally shot himself in the head July 6, 2021, outside a Manitou business.
Her husband, Carlos Perez, is scheduled for a pre-trial conference on Tuesday, June 7.
