April 25

At 0725 hours, Manitou Springs Police officers responded to a four-vehicle traffic accident on U.S. Highway 24 near the Washington Bypass. No one was injured.

Officers responded to an unattended death in the 00 block of Burns Road. Foul play is not suspected.

MSPD received a complaint about a man sleeping in the parking lot of a hotel in the 200 block of Manitou Avenue. After contacting him, the officers learned he had a local misdemeanor warrant. He was taken into custody and booked into the El Paso County Criminal Justice Center.

Officers responded to a cold burglary at 1821 hours. The victim’s home had been broken into through a window, and an item valued at $200 was stolen. Surveillance footage of the incident is available, but the suspect has not been identified. The investigation is ongoing.

Found property with no identifying information was left in the MSPD lobby.

An ID card for a military dependent was left at the MSPD information window.

April 26

MSPD responded to a criminal trespass report in the 100 block of Manitou Avenue. Evidence of various crimes was found in the suspect’s hotel room. The investigation is still active.

Officers conducted a patrol check in the 00 block of Manitou Avenue. While investigating a stolen vehicle, they contacted a man who is wanted on a local misdemeanor warrant. He was served a new personal recognizance bond and released. The officers also contacted a woman on scene and discovered she also had a local misdemeanor warrant; she was served a new PR bond and released.

Manitou officers located a stolen car in the 00 block of Manitou Avenue. The vehicle was recovered and a suspect was arrested.

April 27

At 2154 hours in the 00 block of Manitou Avenue, MSPD located a man wanted on an El Paso County misdemeanor warrant. He was given a personal recognizance bond and released.

Officers located a vehicle in the 00 block of Manitou Avenue at 0130 hours. Two people camping in the truck were found to have local misdemeanor warrants, and both were booked into CJC.

April 28

MSPD responded to Park Avenue after receiving a report of a vehicle being vandalized. The victim had suspect information and wants to pursue charges. The damage was documented and an officer will locate the suspect and issue charges.

April 29

At 0142 hours, officers observed a silver vehicle with its taillights off in the 00 block of Manitou Avenue. After they stopped the vehicle, the driver gave them a false name and was detained. Upon further investigation, the driver was identified and found to have outstanding warrants. The officers also observed drugs on the vehicle’s floor and searched the vehicle, finding copious amounts of narcotics. The driver was taken into custody, transported to CJC and booked on the felony warrant as well as the new charges.

MSPD responded to a motor vehicle theft reported in the 00 block of Manitou Avenue. The victim knows the suspect and provided enough information to identify the person. The vehicle’s information was entered into the National Crime Information Center database and a warrant will be issued for the suspect.

Manitou officers contacted a man violating a city ordinance in the 900 block of Manitou Avenue. He attempted to leave and the officers told him he was being detained, but he continued to gather his possessions and attempt to leave. They grabbed him and he started resisting. The officers were able to take him into custody, then issued a summons and released him.

MSPD received a report of vandalism in a park bathroom in the 200 block of Manitou Avenue. The responding officers found damage in the men’s bathroom and took a report.

April 30

Officers responded to a business in the 00 block of Manitou Avenue, where a man was reported to be using false identification. When MSPD arrived, they contacted him and had dispatch check him in the National Crime Information Center and Colorado Crime Information Center databases. He was found to have a local felony warrant, so the officers took him into custody and transported him to CJC.

May 1

During routine observation of a closed and abandoned property in the 100 block of Manitou Avenue, officers spotted a man trespassing. After contacting him, they discovered he had a local misdemeanor warrant. He was taken into custody and booked into CJC.

At 1435 hours, an officer stopped a vehicle on eastbound Highway 24 at 31st Street. The driver was cited for a criminal traffic violation.

MSPD received a report that someone was attempting to destroy an immobilization device, which parking enforcement had placed, so he could leave with his vehicle from Waltham Avenue. The man had multiple unpaid parking citations and multiple traffic infractions, and damaged the device. He was cited and release, and the vehicle was towed.

COURT UPDATE

Former Manitou Springs High school teacher Timothy Hilt was scheduled for a disposition hearing on Thursday, May 5, according to the Colorado Judicial Branch’s online docket. He is accused of sexually assaulting a student.

Matthew Barton, another former MSHS teacher accused of sexual assault on a student, is set to be arraigned Tuesday, May 10.

Ashlynne Perez is due in court for a final hearing Friday, June 17. Her 4-year-old son accidentally shot himself in the head July 6, 2021, outside a Manitou business.

Her husband, Carlos Perez, is scheduled for a pre-trial conference on Tuesday, June 7.
