April 19
Manitou Springs Police Department officers responded to a traffic accident near the intersection of Manitou Avenue and U.S. Highway 24. Both vehicles were so damaged, they had to be towed from the scene.
A juvenile was involved in an assault in the 400 block of El Monte Place.
A burglary in progress was reported in the 100 block of Manitou Avenue. A trespasser was in the store stealing items; he was apprehended and charged.
Officers responded to a burglary report from an abandoned motel in the 100 block of Manitou Avenue. Upon arrival, they located a transient person who had been removed from the motel before. The person was cited for trespassing and released.
April 20
A juvenile was involved in a sex offense in the 00 block of El Paso Boulevard.
MSPD received reports that someone was threatening to set a fire in the area. They learned that a man entered a hotel in the 100 block of Manitou Avenue and made threats of someone starting a fire. Officers have investigated.
At 2003 hours, officers responded to a harassment report. A woman reported a history of inappropriate behavior from her former physician. The investigation is ongoing.
April 21
A domestic violence incident was reported in the 400 block of El Paso Boulevard and MSPD responded at 0226 hours. Once on scene, officers interviewed the people involved and determined there was no evidence to substantiate either person’s claims.
MSPD responded to the report of a man trespassing at a business in the 500 block of Manitou Avenue. Upon identifying the man, officers discovered that he had a local felony warrant. He was taken into custody and booked into the El Paso County Criminal Justice Center.
A woman reported fraud by computer on April 8, but had no evidence at the time. When she provided evidence later in the month, MSPD investigated.
A juvenile was involved in an incident of harassment via electronic communication in the 400 block of El Monte Place.
At 1857 hours, MSPD responded to the 200 block of Manitou Avenue, where a person was reported to be drunk after trying to leave the scene in a vehicle, ripping the gas hose from the pump. Officers contacted the person, investigated and took the suspect into custody for driving under the influence of alcohol. The suspect was transported to a hospital for unrelated issues.
MSPD received an animal complaint near Cañon and Park avenues, where the victim reported that an unidentified man had allowed his dogs off-leash on multiple occasions. The dogs exhibited aggressive behavior, and officers took a case report because of the many violations of the city’s animal ordinance.
April 22
Officers responded to the report of a prowler in the 00 block of Manitou Avenue. After contacting the man, MSPD learned he was wanted on a local misdemeanor warrant. He was served personal recognizance bond paperwork and escorted off the property.
MSPD contacted a man in the 500 block of Manitou Avenue after a report of disorderly conduct. Officers learned he had two local misdemeanor warrants. He was issued a new court date for both warrants and released.
April 23
At 0220 hours, officers stopped a vehicle near 33rd Street and West Colorado Avenue. The female driver was arrested for felony possession of a controlled substance and booked into CJC.
Manitou officers responded to a traffic accident at the intersection of Highway 24 and Cliff Road. No one was injured, and both vehicles were quickly cleared from the road. The at-fault driver was cited and released.
At 2344 hours, MSPD attempted a traffic stop near West Colorado Avenue and Ridge Road, but the suspect drove away and has not been located.
April 24
Officers stopped a vehicle near Washington Avenue and El Paso Boulevard for a defective headlight. They discovered the driver was wanted on a misdemeanor warrant from the Teller County Sheriff’s Office. The driver was served personal recognizance bond paperwork and cited for multiple traffic offenses.
COURT UPDATE
Former Manitou Springs High school teacher Timothy Hilt is scheduled for a disposition hearing on Thursday, May 5, according to the Colorado Judicial Branch’s online docket. He is accused of sexually assaulting a student.
Matthew Barton, another former MSHS teacher accused of sexual assault on a student, is scheduled to be arraigned Tuesday, May 10.
Ashlynne Perez is scheduled for a final hearing Friday, June 17. Her 4-year-old son accidentally shot himself in the head July 6, 2021, outside a Manitou business.
Her husband, Carlos Perez, is scheduled for a pre-trial conference on Friday, April 29.
