March 17

Manitou Springs Police officers were asked to serve a local misdemeanor warrant. They responded to the 3000 block of West Colorado Avenue and served the suspect with a personal recognizance bond and new court date.

A theft was reported in the 00 block of Manitou Avenue. A woman said that she had left her purse on her vehicle’s bumper and it had disappeared. MSPD investigated.

March 23

A lost credit card was turned in at 1400 hours.

March 27

Car tires were slashed in the 00 block of Manitou Avenue. There is no suspect information.

The same crime was reported at a motel in the 400 block of Manitou Avenue. The investigation is ongoing.

A credit card was turned in at the Manitou Police Station.

March 28

Officers responded to a motel in the 200 block of Manitou Avenue, where tires were slashed on multiple vehicles the previous night. Tires on five vehicles parked at an auto repair shop in the 400 block of Manitou Avenue also were slashed, as were ones on West Colorado Avenue.

MSPD was asked to check the welfare of someone in the 300 block of Pilot Knob Avenue. Officers discovered an intoxicated man asleep in the driver’s seat of a vehicle, but didn’t have sufficient evidence to prove he’d been driving it. They learned the man had a restraining order to stay away from the residence he was parked near, but it was determined the restraining order had been misinterpreted. He was released.

Officers responded at 1905 hours, after a deceased dog was found near the intersection of Old Man’s Trail and Manitou Avenue. There were no signs of animal abuse.

March 29

MSPD responded to a cold criminal trespass (auto) in the 100 block of Bevers Place. The vehicle showed no signs of forced entry, and there is no suspect information.

March 30

A juvenile was involved in a disturbing the peace incident.

March 31

A resident flagged down officers to report that a vehicle had backed into a fence post in the 00 block of Ute Trail before being driven away. The officers took photos and documented the incident.

MSPD officers were flagged down in the 00 block of Manitou Avenue, where a citizen reported a traffic accident between a truck and a parked trailer. When officers spoke with one driver, they began to suspect the person was under the influence of alcohol. After finishing the investigation, the officers took the suspect into custody. The person was cited for DUI and released.

At 1900 hours, officers observed a vehicle parked illegally, blocking the bicycle lane near the intersection of West Colorado Avenue and Ridge Road. They contacted a man inside the vehicle and found he was wanted on a local misdemeanor warrant. He was transported to the El Paso County Criminal Justice Center, and the vehicle was impounded and towed.

April 1

A man was found asleep in his vehicle, parked in the 600 block of Manitou Avenue at 2352 hours. He was awakened and, after an on-scene investigation, was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol.

A resident reported that a front license plate had been stolen in the 100 block of Crystal Park Road. Officers went to the address and took a report.

A cold traffic accident was reported in the parking lot of a business in the 00 block of Manitou Avenue. A vehicle had struck a boulder and a signpost, causing damage, before leaving the scene. MSPD gathered enough suspect information to press charges of hit and run and private property damage.

April 2

Parking Enforcement personnel turned in a lost credit card, which has been placed into safekeeping.

MSPD located a lost wallet in the 900 block of Manitou Avenue. The owner has not been found, so it is in safekeeping.

April 3

Officers stopped a vehicle with a defective headlight in the 300 block of Manitou Avenue. The driver was found to be driving under the influence of alcohol and was arrested.

A disturbance was reported in the 400 block of Ruxton Avenue. Once on scene, officers located the suspect, who had pointed a gun at several people. The gun was located and the suspect was booked into CJC on possession of a weapon and aggravated assault.

MSPD responded to the area of mile marker 297 on U.S. Highway 24 for a check-the-welfare request. The officers arrested a suspect on possession of schedule II narcotics and driving under the influence of drugs.

A woman was reported to have alleged to her significant other that she had overdosed on pills. Officers spoke with the woman and found that wasn’t true. While they were investigating, she alleged domestic violence. The officers investigated that, but couldn’t substantiate the claim.

COURT UPDATE

Timothy Hilt, a former Manitou Springs High School teacher accused of sexually assaulting a student, was scheduled to appear for a disposition hearing on Tuesday, April 5, according to the Colorado Judicial Branch’s online docket. No additional information is available at this time.

Matthew Barton, a former MSHS teacher also accused of sexually assaulting a student, is scheduled for a preliminary hearing on Tuesday, April 12.
