March 14
Manitou Springs Police officers responded to a hit-and-run accident in the 800 block of Manitou Avenue. The suspect has not been located yet, but has been identified. There were no injuries.
At 2155 hours, MSPD responded to a domestic violence report in the 00 block of Manitou Avenue. The suspect was taken into custody and transported to the El Paso County Criminal Justice Center.
March 15
Officers received a report of a cold assault; the victim didn’t want to press charges, but wanted to document the incident.
A laptop was stolen at Manitou Springs High School, 401 El Monte Place.
MSPD contacted a homeless man while cleaning up a camp at U.S. Highway 24 and 31st Street. He had two local misdemeanor warrants and was given a personal recognizance bond.
A juvenile was involved in miscellaneous incidents in the 400 block of Winter Street.
At 2209 hours, Manitou police responded to an assault in the 700 block of Manitou Avenue. Once on scene, officers spoke to all involved parties and are pursuing charges against the suspect.
March 16
MSPD responded at 0417 hours to the 00 block of Manitou Avenue after criminal mischief was reported. At this time, there is no suspect information. Evidence was gathered and the investigation is ongoing.
Officers responded to a domestic disturbance reported in the 00 block of Manitou Avenue. The suspect had left the scene by the time they arrived, but a warrant has been issued.
March 17
A traffic accident occurred in the 300 block of Manitou Avenue. The responding officers observed signs that a female driver might be under the influence of alcohol. Her vehicle had severe front-end damage; she was arrested for DUI and hit-and-run.
At 1750 hours, a disturbance was reported in a motel room in the 00 block of Manitou Avenue. No disturbance was discovered and the reporting party was found to be making a false report. A warrant was issued.
March 18
A Manitou officer responded to a traffic accident in Fountain Creek near Highway 24 and Ridge Road. After investigating, the officer suspected that the vehicle’s driver was under the influence of alcohol. The driver, who already has five DUI convictions, was taken into custody and booked into CJC.
MSPD responded at 1800 hours to a suspicious incident near the 400 block of El Paso Boulevard. One of the people contacted was found to have three local misdemeanor warrants. He was arrested and booked into CJC.
March 19
Manitou officers were dispatched to an accident on private property in the 00 block of Crystal Park Road. When they arrived, the suspect had left the scene.
March 20
At 0330 hours, MSPD located a suspicious vehicle near Higginbotham Road and Highway 24. The occupant was found to have two El Paso County misdemeanor warrants. Personal recognizance bonds were issued and the person was released.
Manitou officers responded to the 00 block of Manitou Avenue, where a large rock was thrown through a motel room’s window. MSPD is working with suspect information.
At 1900 hours, MSPD responded to an “attempt to locate” for a wanted person. A woman was taken into custody and booked into CJC on felony warrants from Missouri.
At 2131 hours, officers observed a white Hummer speeding in the 100 block of Manitou Avenue. After stopping the vehicle, they learned the driver had a local misdemeanor warrant. The suspect was taken into custody and transported to CJC.
COURT UPDATE
Timothy Hilt, a former Manitou Springs High School teacher accused of sexually assaulting a student, will be in court for a disposition hearing on Thursday, March 24, according to the Colorado Judicial Branch’s online docket.
Matthew Barton, a former MSHS teacher also accused of sexually assaulting a student, is scheduled for a preliminary hearing on Tuesday, April 12.
Ashlynne Perez pleaded guilty to criminally negligent child abuse resulting in death and is scheduled for a sentencing hearing Thursday, March 24. Her 4-year-old son accidentally shot himself in the head July 6 outside a Manitou business.
Her husband, Carlos Perez, is scheduled for a pre-trial conference on Friday, April 29.
