Feb. 14

Manitou Springs Police officers were dispatched to a disturbance in the 900 block of Osage Avenue. When they arrived, they spoke to a man who said he was having a rough night and made suicidal comments. The officers placed him on a mental health hold and he was transported by ambulance to a hospital.

A statutory rape (victim younger than 16) was reported in the 400 block of El Monte Place.

Feb. 15

Officers responded to a suspicious incident reported in the 100 block of Spencer Avenue. They located a man trespassing in a fenced-in yard and found he had a solar light in his pocket. He was taken into custody and issued a summons for theft and trespassing.

MSPD responded, along with the Manitou Springs Fire Department, to a fire near the bottling plant in the 1300 block of Manitou Avenue. A male transient had started a fire in the wooded area west of the plant. He was charged with arson and trespassing.

A statutory rape was reported in the 400 block of El Monte Place.

Officers responded to a restraining order violation at a business in the 100 block of Manitou Avenue. The suspect has not been located, and the investigation will continue.

At 1901 hours, MSPD responded to a disturbance reported in the 00 block of Manitou Avenue. Officers identified all involved parties at the scene, and the victim stated she wanted to pursue charges. The suspect was served a summons to appear in court for misdemeanor violations.

Officers were using the Colorado Crime Information Center/National Crime Information Center databases to check weapons held in MSPD evidence lockup. A stolen gun was identified.

Feb. 16

A sex offense case involving a juvenile in Colorado Springs was reported.

Feb. 17

At 0815 hours, Manitou officers stopped a vehicle in the 900 block of Manitou Avenue for a minor traffic violation. The driver was cited and released; however, MSPD later discovered the driver had attempted to influence a public servant by deceit. A warrant is being sought.

In the 200 block of Manitou Avenue, MSPD contacted a man for camping in public places. He was found to have two arrest warrants, and was taken into custody and booked into the El Paso County Criminal Justice Center.

Officers responded to a theft report in the 00 block of Manitou Avenue, where a vehicle owner reported a stolen license plate. There is no suspect information, but the plate’s details were entered into the national crime database.

Feb. 18

While patrolling near Ridge Road and U.S. Highway 24, officers found several illegal camps. One of the transients had a local misdemeanor warrant; he was issued a new court date and released.

Feb. 19

MSPD responded to a domestic violence in progress reported in the 00 block of Manitou Avenue. The officers investigated on scene and arrested a man for multiple domestic violence charges, as well as assault on a peace officer. The suspect was transported to CJC.

Officers responded to a report of attempted criminal trespassing in the 300 block of Crystal Hills Boulevard. The suspects were located; one fled on foot, leaving behind a backpack with identifying documentation. The second suspect was identified and released. An arrest warrant will be issued for the suspect who fled.

Feb. 20

In the 200 block of Elk Path, MSPD located a man known to have a misdemeanor warrant from another state. He was transported to CJC.

Officers stopped a vehicle in the 100 block of Manitou Avenue. It was not insured and had expired registration. The driver has been told numerous times that the vehicle could not be driven on public streets. The driver was cited for driving without insurance, their license was suspended and the vehicle was impounded.

MSPD responded to the report of a cold criminal trespass (auto) in the 200 block of Crystal Valley Road. No suspect information is available.

COURT UPDATE

According to the Colorado Judicial Branch’s online docket, Matthew Barton, a former Manitou Springs High School teacher accused of sexually assaulting a student, is scheduled for a preliminary hearing on Tuesday, March 15.

Timothy Hilt, a former MSHS teacher also accused of sexually assaulting a student, will be in court for a disposition hearing on Thursday,
March 24.

Ashlynne Perez pleaded guilty to criminally negligent child abuse resulting in death and is scheduled to be sentenced Thursday, March 24. Her 4-year-old son accidentally shot himself in the head July 6 outside a Manitou business.

Her husband, Carlos Perez, is scheduled to be arraigned (formal reading of charges) on Friday, March 18.
