Feb. 6

The Manitou Springs Police Department responded to a hit-and-run traffic accident near U.S. Highway 24 and Cliff Road. A vehicle was damaged.

Feb. 7

MSPD responded to a cold criminal trespass (auto) in the 900 block of Manitou Avenue. No suspect information is available.

Officers responded to a harassment report in the 00 block of Puma Path. When they arrived, they were told that an assault had occurred. MSPD interviewed the victim and a summons has been issued for the suspect.

Manitou officers observed a black truck with no visible registration tags and stopped it in the 2700 block of West Colorado Avenue. The male driver had multiple warrants, a suspended license and no proof of insurance. MSPD arrested him; before placing him in the patrol vehicle, the officers searched him to ensure he didn’t have any weapons. They found a Visa debit card with a woman’s name, placed it into evidence and contacted her. She said that her purse was stolen and the card was in it. The vehicle was towed and the suspect was transported to the El Paso County Criminal Justice Center.

Feb. 8

MSPD contacted a homeless man for illegal camping and trespassing in the 3400 block of West Colorado Avenue. He refused to identify himself truthfully and was arrested on local felony warrants.

At 2224 hours, officers stopped a vehicle in the 200 block of Manitou Avenue. The driver was found to have multiple local misdemeanor warrants, was taken into custody and released on a personal recognizance bond with a new court date.

Feb. 9

A vehicle break-in was reported near Soda Springs Park. There is no suspect information available.

While contacting illegal campers near Highway 24 and Ridge Road, MSPD arrested one person on suspicion of violating a domestic violence-related protection order.

Officers responded to a harassment report in the 00 block of Marbeck Road after a verbal altercation over speeding cars. The suspect will be served a summons later.

An MSPD officer responded to a domestic violence incident in progress in the 100 block of Crystal Hills Boulevard. The officer discovered that a woman had gotten into an argument with a man and he locked himself in a garage. She began kicking multiple doors, causing significant damage, in an attempt to force her way into the garage. She was taken into custody.

At 2026 hours, MSPD received a report that someone was stealing a street sign near Cañon Avenue and Lovers Lane. The caller said the suspects left in a blue Dodge Ram, which was located and stopped in the 900 block of Manitou Avenue. While contacting the driver, officers smelled an unknown alcoholic beverage. The driver was unable to complete voluntary roadside maneuvers and was taken into custody on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol. A man was cited for damaging city property.

Feb. 10

A missing person was reported.

Feb. 11

A juvenile is being investigated on suspicion of making harassing phone calls.

MSPD was notified of a sexual assault that occurred in El Paso County several years ago. A case report was started.

At 1950 hours, MSPD received a Safe2Tell tip from a Manitou Springs student. Officers contacted the student and the parents, but the student seemed to be OK and no emergency was apparent.

Feb. 12

A domestic violence in progress was reported in the 500 block of Cañon Avenue. Officers investigated and spoke to the man and woman involved and determined that nothing criminal had occurred. They separated the people while still on scene.

At 1141 hours, MSPD responded to a theft reported in the 00 block of Manitou Avenue. Upon arrival, officers met with the caller, who reported that an unknown person had stolen property within the past month. No suspect information was provided.

A man was reported to have trespassed in a business in the 100 block of Manitou Avenue and shoplifted items from the store. The suspect had left the scene, but due to previous contact, officers were able to identify him. A summons has been issued.

A Ring doorbell was reported stolen in the 00 block of Manitou Avenue. There is no suspect information.

Feb. 13

A lost wallet was turned in, but MSPD has not been able to contact the owner.

COURT UPDATE

According to the Colorado Judicial Branch’s online docket, Matthew Barton, a former Manitou Springs High School teacher accused of sexually assaulting a student, is scheduled for a preliminary hearing on Tuesday, March 15.

Timothy Hilt, a former MSHS teacher also accused of sexually assaulting a student, will be in court for a disposition hearing on Thursday, March 24.

Ashlynne Perez pleaded guilty to criminally negligent child abuse resulting in death and is scheduled to be sentenced Thursday, March 24. Her 4-year-old son accidentally shot himself in the head July 6 outside a Manitou business.

Her husband, Carlos Perez, is scheduled to be arraigned (formal reading of charges) on Friday, March 18.
