Manitou Springs Police officers located an illegal camp near West Colorado Avenue and Ridge Road, where the occupant had destroyed vegetation and amassed a large amount of garbage that was flowing into the creek. The suspect was charged with trespassing on private property and with violating statutes related to preservation of wildlife and forests. A vintage guitar was reported stolen in the 900 block of Manitou Avenue. There is no suspect information at this time, but the guitar’s details were entered into a database of stolen items that is sent to pawn shops.
 
OCT. 11
MSPD responded to the 100 block of Manitou Avenue, where a woman was reported to be causing a disturbance. While officers were on scene, attempting to de-escalate the situation, she kicked an officer in the leg. She was taken into custody and booked into the El Paso County Criminal Justice Center. A Manitou officer contacted a man suspected of trespassing on private property in the 100 block of Manitou Avenue, but he fled on foot. The officer quickly captured the suspect, who was cited for obstructing police and released. MSPD was called to a criminal trespassing incident (motor vehicle) in the 100 block of Lover’s Lane. When officers arrived, the suspect initially was compliant, but he began attempting to fight officers and tried to bite one. He was arrested, taken to a hospital and charged.
 
OCT. 12
After receiving a report of a man causing a disturbance at a business in the 00 block of Manitou Avenue, officers responded to the area and soon located him. They took him into custody; he was cited for obstructing police and harassment, and booked into CJC. MSPD responded to a report of a man who had taken his life in the 300 block of Plainview Place. The Manitou Springs Fire Department was already on scene and pronounced him deceased. An investigation was completed, and the death was ruled not suspicious. A trespass in progress was reported at a motel in the 100 block of Manitou Avenue. Everyone had left the scene before MSPD arrived, but officers checked the motel room and found a small bag of a suspected illegal substance. The bag was seized for destruction. A hit-and-run accident was reported in the 600 block of Cañon Avenue. Officers located the suspect’s vehicle near Alpine Trail and Lucerne Trail. The driver was arrested for being under the influence of alcohol, simple assault on a police officer and other offenses. At 2038 hours, MSPD responded to a cold assault in the 500 block of El Paso Boulevard. A man had been seriously injured with a weapon.
 
OCT. 13
A child-neglect incident occurred in the 700 block of Manitou Avenue. Officers located a vehicle connected to a suspect with a local felony warrant. The vehicle was stopped near West Colorado Avenue and 26th Street, and the driver was arrested and transported to CJC. MSPD stopped a vehicle being driven on the wrong side of the street near Manitou Avenue and Beckers Lane. Officers developed probable cause to arrest a 39-year-old Colorado Springs woman for driving under the influence of drugs.
 
OCT. 14
Officers stopped a speeding vehicle in the 200 block of Manitou Avenue and arrested the driver on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol. A traffic accident occurred at U.S. Highway 24 and Cliff Road. Two drivers had attempted to cross the highway at the same time and collided head-on, damaging both vehicles, but no one was injured. O CT. 15 Near West Colorado Avenue and Ridge Road, MSPD stopped a vehicle with an expired license plate and discovered the driver had felony warrants from outside of El Paso County. Officers arrested the 46-year-old Boulder man.
 
OCT. 16
Officers contacted a transient man who was littering and trespassing near the Midland Trail in unincorporated El Paso County. He was arrested on a local misdemeanor warrant and charged with violating public conservation laws.
