May 7

Manitou Springs Police officers responded to a hit-and-run traffic accident involving four vehicles in the 400 block of East Fountain Place.

May 9

A set of keys was found in City Hall and turned in.

A watch was turned in at the police station lobby.

A traffic accident was reported at Old Man’s Trail and Manitou Avenue. A Mountain Metro bus driver scraped a rock wall on a Fountain Creek bridge while making a right-hand turn.

MSPD responded to a burglary in progress in the 100 block of Ruxton Avenue. A man on scene had a local misdemeanor warrant and was taken into custody and booked into the El Paso County Criminal Justice Center. He and another man were cited for trespassing.

May 10

Officers contacted two people digging through a trash receptacle in the 3100 block of West Colorado Avenue and found one had a local misdemeanor warrant. He was taken into custody and assigned a new court date.

MSPD found a man passed out in the driver’s seat of his running vehicle in the 3600 block of West Colorado Avenue. Officers saw needles and a pipe inside the vehicle, but the suspect drove away, nearly hitting an officer and another vehicle.

May 11

Officers attempted to stop a vehicle after it ran a red light near Beckers Lane and Manitou Avenue, but the suspect drove away. The investigation continues.

An accident occurred on U.S. Highway 24 near mile marker 298. Due to the rain and standing water on the highway, the driver struck a concrete barrier, causing severe damage to the vehicle. No one was injured and the vehicle was towed.

A Motorola cellphone was turned in at the police station.

At 1110 hours, MSPD contacted a suspect with a local misdemeanor warrant in the 100 block of Ruxton Avenue. The person was taken into custody and booked into CJC.

May 13

A vehicle was reported stolen from the 200 block of Beckers Lane. The investigation is ongoing.

An officer stopped a speeding vehicle near Garden of the Gods Place and El Paso Boulevard. The officer began to suspect the driver was under the influence of alcohol; the driver was cited and released.

MSPD contacted a suspicious vehicle in the 100 block of Washington Avenue and found a man asleep inside. While the officers were talking to him, they noticed drug paraphernalia in plain sight inside the vehicle. They searched the vehicle and ultimately arrested the man on multiple drug-related charges, served a misdemeanor summons and released him.

Officers stopped a vehicle without headlights near West Colorado Avenue and Columbia Road. They arrested the driver, a 74-year-old Woodland Park man, for driving under the influence of alcohol.

May 14

At 0301 hours, MSPD stopped a vehicle in the 100 block of Beckers Lane and arrested the driver for DUI.

MSPD and the Manitou Springs Fire Department responded to a gravely disabled person on Narrows Road. He was placed on a mental health hold, as he needed immediate care and could not take care of himself.

Officers stopped a vehicle in the 500 block of Manitou Avenue and cited the driver for having fictitious registration.

MSPD responded to a traffic accident with vehicle damage in the 00 block of Deer Path.
