June 19

Manitou Springs Police officers contacted a female transient while patrolling on foot near the Midland Trail in the 3400 block of West Colorado Avenue. She was wanted on local felony warrants and was arrested and booked into the El Paso County Criminal Justice Center.

Officers stopped a vehicle near Manitou Avenue and Beckers Lane and found that the driver had a local misdemeanor warrant. She was taken into custody and booked into CJC.

June 20

The MSPD responded to assist the Manitou Springs Fire Department in the 100 block of Manitou Avenue. Personnel discovered that a man had overdosed on over-the-counter medication.

June 21

MSPD and MSFD responded to a check-the-welfare request for a woman in the 300 block of Terrace Place. Friends and neighbors were concerned that they hadn’t been able to contact her. Personnel were able to get into the home and found that she was deceased. The death appeared to be from natural causes and, after an investigation, was concluded to be not suspicious.

At 1742 hours, officers were dispatched to a disturbance in the 00 block of Manitou Avenue. The suspect was threatening to kill people in the area and, as police arrived, ran inside his residence. Officers outside heard what sounded like a weapon being loaded. The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office Special Weapons and Tactics team was called to the area, along with the negotiations team. Four hours of negotiations took place until SWAT carried out a plan to apprehend the suspect without injuries. He was evaluated at a hospital, then transported to CJC.

June 22

MSPD arrested a person for driving under the influence of alcohol near Manitou Avenue and Crystal Hills Boulevard. The vehicle was towed.

Officers attempted to stop a vehicle at West Colorado Avenue and Columbia Road. It failed to yield, but the driver has been identified and a warrant will be issued.

A vehicle stolen from Colorado Springs was reported in the 400 block of Manitou Avenue. An involved man at the scene was found to be wanted on a misdemeanor warrant from Arvada and was served a personal recognizance bond. Manitou officers located another, unrelated, stolen vehicle at the scene.

Officers responded to a report of identity theft in the 300 block of Manitou Avenue. Two bank accounts were opened in a victim’s name, using her identification. The victim didn’t have any suspect information.

While following up on a previous case, MSPD interviewed a man in the 00 block of Manitou Avenue. He was found to have a local misdemeanor warrant, and was taken into custody and booked into CJC.

Officers responded to a harassment in progress in the 200 block of Manitou Avenue. The suspect will be cited.

June 23

Officers stopped a vehicle after seeing it being driven the wrong way, with no headlights, in the 500 block of Manitou Avenue. The driver was arrested for being under the influence of alcohol.

MSPD responded to a check-the-welfare request about a person sitting on the concrete divider of U.S. Highway 24, near mile marker 297. Officers located the person walking west on the highway in the eastbound lanes. The suspect, who attempted to give false information to the officers, was identified and found to have a local misdemeanor warrant. The suspect was taken into custody and booked into CJC after being cited for obstruction.

MSPD responded, along with the El Paso County Department of Human Services, to allegations of child abuse in the 00 block of El Paso Boulevard. Manitou officers assisted DHS with the temporary removal of a juvenile victim and have begun investigating.

June 24

A vehicle in the 300 block of Manitou Avenue was reported to have been rummaged through. The owner believes they had left a vehicle door open for an extended amount of time. After returning to the vehicle, they realized several items were missing. There is no suspect information.

Officers were waved down in the 700 block of Manitou, where a fence appeared to be glowing red hot. MSPD contacted MSFD and assisted fire department personnel.

MSPD located a stolen truck in the 3000 block of West Colorado Avenue. Officers were unable to contact the owner, so the truck was towed.

A found debit card was turned in to officers.

MSPD contacted a man camping in the 100 block of Manitou Avenue and learned he had local misdemeanor warrants. After taking him into custody, officers searched his vehicle and found illicit drugs.

Officers checked on a homeless man sleeping in a flower bed in the 900 block of Manitou Avenue and found that he had a local misdemeanor warrant.

June 25

Officers stopped a vehicle being driven without headlights in the 500 block of Manitou Avenue. They gained probable cause to arrest the driver for being under the influence of drugs.

MSPD responded to a traffic accident involving a city bus and a parked vehicle on Ruxton Avenue near Brook Street.

June 26

A domestic violence in progress was reported in the 500 block of Cañon Avenue. Officers arrived on scene and discovered that a man and a woman had been involved in a physical altercation. The woman was issued a summons.
