DECEMBER 17
MSPD officers responded to minor traffic accident involving a city of Colorado Springs vehicle on Ruxton Avenue.
Officers responded to Manitou Springs Elementary School after multiple students reported an acute onset of coughing while in the auditorium. The school was evacuated, and Manitou Springs Fire Department took over the scene. The cause of the incident was not identified, but officials stated the unknown irritant was dissipating and recommended a deep cleaning of the area.
DECEMBER 18
Manitou Springs Police Officer responded to a report of a male party trespassing for the purpose of camping illegally on School District 14 property. The male suspect was located and found to have active warrants for his arrest. The suspect was taken into custody and cited for trespassing prior to being booked into CJC.
MSPD officers contacted a transient individual in the 100 block of Manitou Avenue for illegally camping and littering. He was arrested and released on summons.
DECEMBER 19
Officers observed a suspicious vehicle driving westbound on W. Highway 24. Officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop, but the vehicle eluded.
DECEMBER 20
Officers arrested a vehicular eluding suspect, who when checked on law enforcement databases had two warrants. The suspect was arrested, transported, and held at El Paso County Criminal Justice Center.
Backpack was given to MSPD’s School Resource Officer who provided it to an officer who had consistent access to the processing room. The backpack was taken as found property and given to evidence technician to process. Called possible owner; phone belonged to a woman who only advised she would pass on the message that the police department will hold his backpack for 90 days.
A subject presented a fake ID at a marijuana dispensary to purchase marijuana illegally. An investigation is ongoing.
DECEMBER 21
Manitou Spring Police Officers contacted a person sleeping in his car while it was running in the Safeway parking lot on W. Colorado Ave. Officers arrested the man after it was determined he was under the influence of an unknown substance.
Officers responded to a call for found property. Officers attempted contacting the property owner with no success. Property was collected and stored as safe keeping.
DECEMBER 22
Manitou Springs Police Officers conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle that was swerving. Officers later discovered the vehicle had fictious plates.
MSPD Officers were dispatched to a traffic accident involving a motorcycle in the area of Manitou Ave and Colorado Ave. Units located the down motorcycle rider who got back on and took off from officers. Due to the reckless driving of the motorcycle rider officers terminated the chase. While canvassing the area officers located the motorcyclist who was taken into custody. The party was a juvenile who was summonsed and released to legal guardian.
DECEMBER 24
MSPD Officers working proactively, located a reported stolen motorcycle in the 200 block of Manitou Ave. Officers were able to identify the party on the motorcycle and that party was arrested and lodged at CJC.
The Manitou Crisis Response Team responded to a suicidal check the welfare in the 000 block of Elk Path. The subject had already left the scene when the call for service was placed. MCR located the subject in the area of El Paso Blvd. and Manitou Ave. Following investigation, the male party was placed on a hold and transported to the hospital for evaluation.
DECEMBER 25
Officers were called to a local motel for a transient male that did not provide proper identification. Staff were also concerned for his wellbeing. Officers learned he had a warrant and he was transported to the El Paso County jail.
Officers responded to a suicidal check the welfare in the 500 block of Canon Ave. The subject was subsequently confirmed to be okay.
DECEMBER 27
Officers of the Manitou Springs Police Department were dispatched to Prospect Pl. for a domestic violence just occurred call for service between a male and female party. Officers were unable to determine if something criminal had occurred during the altercation.
DECEMBER 28
Officers from the Manitou Springs Police Department conducted a check the welfare on a female and male party sitting in a running vehicle at the intersection of Canon Ave. and Glen Rd.
Officers stopped a vehicle near Highway 24 and Manitou Avenue for weaving. The driver was arrested for a third offense DUI and other charges.
The Manitou Springs Police Department responded to the assist the Manitou Spring Parking Enforcement with the removal of an abandoned vehicle. Attempts were made to locate the owner of the trailer prior to it being towed.
Manitou Springs Police Officers conducted a traffic stop on a suspected DUI driver in the vicinity of westbound Highway 24 West and Cliff Rd. The suspect refused to complete voluntary roadside tests and express consent. Officers arrested the suspect for driving under the influence.
DECEMBER 29
MSPD officers contacted a transient for illegally camping and littering near the intersection of W. Colorado Ave. and Ridge Rd. on the midland trail. She was found to have four outstanding warrants for her arrest. She was charged with introduction of contraband after attempting to bring drugs inside of CJC.
DECEMBER 30
Officers checked on a suspicious vehicle near Vermijo Park and found a subject operating a vehicle under the influence of drugs. A Colorado Springs male was arrested for DUI and possession of a controlled substance.
Manitou officers conducted a Drug Recognition evaluation on a Colorado Springs man to assist with a sheriff’s department investigation.
