AUGUST 21

Officers checked on a vehicle parked near a closed business in the 3000 block of W. Colorado Avenue and found one of the occupants had a misdemeanor arrest warrant.

 

AUGUST 22

Officers observed a vehicle driving with a flat tire in the 3000 block of W. Colorado Avenue. Upon contacting the driver, she was found to be operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol. Officers placed a Colorado Springs female into custody for DUI.

Officers responded to an assault call for service in the 600 block of Manitou Avenue. One subject was transported to the hospital with minor injuries. An arrest warrant was filed for the suspect.

The Manitou Springs Police and Fire Departments responded to a report of a suspected death on Taos Place. The Manitou Springs Fire Department confirmed that party had died and was beyond saving. The Manitou Springs Police Department conducted an investigation and found the death to be of natural causes and not suspicious. The event was documented by the Manitou Springs Police Department.

Officers received a call about a hit and run which occurred somewhere between Friday and Monday. No video was available, but a suspect was given; the investigation is still ongoing.

Officers stopped a vehicle in the 500 block of Manitou Avenue for driving through medians and cutting off other vehicles and weaving in the lane. The driver was subsequently arrested for DUI.

 

AUGUST 23

A female reported that she got into an altercation with her ex-boyfriend in the 900 block of Prospect Place. An investigation is ongoing.

Officers stopped a vehicle for weaving in the 300 block of Manitou Avenue. The driver was subsequently arrested for DUI. 

An officer with the Manitou Springs Police Department attempted to conduct a traffic stop with a motorcycle for reckless driving in the 300 Manitou Avenue. The motorcycle’s registration was not visible and the motorcycle fled the area. A report was taken to document the vehicular eluding.

 

AUGUST 24

Officers stopped a vehicle for speeding and swerving on W. Highway 24. The driver was subsequently arrested for DUI. He was found to have an unknown possible drug in his pocket which is being sent for testing.

Officers with the Manitou Springs Police Department assisted the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office with an attempt to locate a lost or stolen cell phone in the 3000 block of W. Colorado Avenue. Upon arrival, officers contacted a male party believed to be in possession of the cell phone. The male party was able to return the phone to the owner. The male party had an active warrant for his arrest and was taken into custody without issue. While conducting a search of the male party, officers located illegal items in his possession. The illegal items were seized and new charges were issued against the male suspect.

The reporting party came to MSPD to report his vehicle had been hit in the Wichita Parking lot. The other vehicle left the scene. A witness recorded the license plate of the vehicle that left and left it on the RPs vehicle. The vehicle that left was traced and the responsible party will be contacted.

Officers observed two subjects in the 900 block of Manitou Avenue appearing to get ready to fight. Upon exiting the vehicle, the officer learned one subject was harassing multiple people along Manitou Avenue, officers contacted the suspect and charged a 39-year-old male for possession of drug paraphernalia and a warning for disorderly conduct.

 

AUGUST 25

Officers stopped a vehicle on W. Colorado Avenue after the driver appeared to be falling asleep and driving 15 MPH under the speed limit. The driver was subsequently arrested for DUI.

Officers contacted a few parties at a motel in the 300 block of Manitou Avenue to check on their wellbeing. During the contact it was determined one of the drivers was under the influence of alcohol and was arrested for DUI.

 

AUGUST 26

The Manitou Crisis Response Team assisted the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office with a suicidal check the welfare near Rampart Reservoir. Following investigation, a female party was placed on a mental health hold and transported to the hospital for evaluation.
