Manitou Springs Police Department officers were notified that several tombstones were damaged at the Crystal Valley Cemetery. It appears that someone drove through a portion of the grass. Investigation is ongoing.
AUGUST 7
The Manitou Crisis Response team responded to a suicidal check the welfare in the 000 block of Washington Ave. Following investigation, a male party was placed on a mental health hold, and was transported to a psychiatric hospital for treatment.
Officers responded to a criminal trespass in the 400 block of Manitou Avenue. Officers located a party with an illegal camp, who was found to have a felony arrest warrant from the Colorado Department of Corrections. The party was taken into custody and booked into the El Paso County Criminal Justice Center.
Officers were conducting follow up on another case around Garden of the Gods Road and El Paso Boulevard when they observed two individuals by the creek. One was found to have a felony warrant and was in possession of drugs. He was transported to the El Paso County jail.
Officers conducted a traffic stop in the area of N. 31st Street and W. Fontanero Street. One subject was arrested on several misdemeanor warrants without incident.
While investigating a possible domestic violence incident in the 000 block of Manitou Avenue, officers located a 43-year-old transient male with an outstanding Manitou Springs warrant and an outstanding El Paso County warrant. The subject was transported to the El Paso County Jail.
AUGUST 9
Officers stopped a vehicle for speeding in the 300 block of Manitou Avenue. The driver was subsequently arrested for DUID.
Officers observed a dirt bike that did not have registration or lighting near Manitou Avenue and W. Highway 24. Officers attempted to stop the vehicle but the driver fled on foot. The motorcycle was discovered to be stolen. An investigation is ongoing.
The Manitou Springs Police Department responded to a non-injury traffic accident in the 300 block of Beckers Lane. One of the vehicles was no longer on scene and was later located. A report was taken to document the incident.
Officers stopped a car after observing the driver run a red light near Columbia and W. Colorado Avenue. The driver was subsequently arrested for DUI.
Officers stopped a vehicle for speeding and weaving on W. Highway 24. The driver was arrested for DUI but was not cited after testing indicated his BAC was below the legal limit.
AUGUST 10
Officers stopped a vehicle for swerving on 36th street and W. Colorado Avenue. After searching the vehicle, the driver was cited for possession of illicit drugs. The two passengers were both arrested on warrants and transported to CJC.
Officers responded to a traffic accident involving a motorcycle on W. Highway 24 and Cave of the Winds. After investigating, officers determined the driver of the motorcycle was not at fault and was not cited.
Officers stopped a vehicle on W. Colorado Avenue and observed indicators of drug usage. After investigation, passengers were found to have multiple warrants.
Officers stopped a vehicle on W. Colorado Avenue. After running the passengers, officers were informed they had warrants. Both passengers were transported to CJC without incident.
AUGUST 11
An unknown subject removed cash without permission in the area of 500 Manitou Avenue. An investigation is ongoing.
Officers attempted to stop a vehicle for a traffic violation near Manitou Avenue and Highway 24. The vehicle fled the area and was eventually located on Oklahoma Road. The driver, a 22-year-old Kansas City man, was arrested on an outstanding Kansas warrant and new local charges. The subject was transported to the El Paso County Jail.
