Simple ways to help alleviate climate change

To the editor and the community:

As you may know, many human activities have caused an increase in greenhouse gases in the atmosphere, causing the climate to shift.

Between fossil fuel emissions in the atmosphere, deforestation and agricultural activities, the problem is only getting worse.

It’s been reported that big corporations are the cause of about 70 percent of these emissions. However, it’s not too late to take steps toward fixing this problem and help increase that 30 percent.

We can all do our part in reducing greenhouse gas emissions into the atmosphere. Luckily, many solutions are easy to implement in your everyday life. For example: limiting air conditioning and heating use to times when it’s necessary.

Another solution is to drive less. Although this isn’t ideal for everyone, a good alternative is to carpool or use public transportation.

A more long-term solution is to start using more energy-efficient devices.

Planting trees to help replace the ones that are being cut down also helps the environment by reducing the amount of carbon dioxide in the air.

So the next time you turn up your AC or throw a plastic bottle in the trash, I hope you remember this letter and decide to do your part to help fix climate change.

Sincerely,

Petra Figueroa
