According to the preliminary results of the Jan. 18 special election, 1,302 Manitou Springs voters didn’t like the idea of a third marijuana outlet in the city. Only 424 people were in favor.
Judging by the guest editorials published in the Bulletin, one reason for opposing the planned store was its proposed location at Higginbotham Flats.
A Jan. 19 press release paid for by PMF Co. included reaction from Scott Hunt, chair of the VOTE YES Manitou campaign.
“While I am disappointed in the outcome, I want to thank the people of Manitou who supported us, as well as those who were willing to have a conversation about this issue,” he said.
“I respect the wishes of my friends and neighbors and will continue to work with them on issues important to our city.”
The release also stated that VOTE YES Manitou will evaluate next steps before deciding whether to bring this issue before Manitou voters in the future.
Once the election results are finalized, the numbers will be posted on the city’s website at www.manitouspringsgov.com/688/2022-Special-Election.
