Joel Grotzinger, 65, passed away June 15, 2023, after a valiant four-year battle with advanced prostate cancer. He was surrounded by family who loved him: his wife Marjorie, sons Andrew and Neil, daughter-in-law Chelsea, and stepchildren Jessica and Stephen.

Joel moved to Manitou Springs in 2010. He loved that it was a small, walkable town since he worked from home as a software developer. The creek running through town reminded him of growing up near the Susquehanna River. Manitou felt like home.

He believed in community involvement and giving back. With Kiwanis, he created and ran the St. Patrick’s Day Dinner that took place in City Hall for many years. The dinner raised funds to vaccinate against neonatal tetanus in Africa and contributed to local projects like the restoration of Rainbow Falls.

He and Marjorie were known for their yearly Coffin Races and Carnivale parties. In 2022, they were king and queen of the Carnivale Parade and had an amazing day!

Joel requested a celebration of life/memorial, which will start at 1 p.m. Saturday, July 15, at 356 Ruxton Ave. He also requested that, instead of flowers, donations be made to local food banks.

Friends who plan to attend and have questions may call Marjorie at 719-360-6004.
