The Great Fruitcake Toss is scheduled to return to the skies over Manitou Springs on Saturday, Jan. 22. Festivities will take place 1-3 p.m. in Memorial Park, 500 block of Manitou Avenue.
Participants can compete for bragging rights in distance, accuracy, speed and balance. Tickets to participate are $1, or one canned good, per event. Donated food will go to the Manitou Springs Food Pantry.
Volunteers are needed to help with the events; go to manitousprings.org/volunteer-in-manitou-springs or contact kayla@manitouchamber.com.
Bring your own cakes — which will be inspected — or buy the trajectories for $5 at the entry table, day of the event. Toss-watchers can enjoy fruitcake samples from Collin Street Bakery in Texas or warm beverages and sandwich specials from the Tava Food Truck.
Afterward, the fruitcakes will be donated to Jezebel, the pig at SunMountain Center. They are nutritionally safe for animals.
