The Manitou Springs Fire Department was dispatched to a small grass and brush fire near the Cave of the Winds entrance at 6:31 p.m. Monday, May 16.
Approximately 20 members of the MSFD responded, along with personnel from the U.S. Forest Service, Crystal Park Fire Protection District and the Colorado Springs Fire Department.
The fire was quickly controlled. Currently, the cause is undetermined.
Manitou Springs and the Pikes Peak region are in a period of extreme fire danger. The MSFD is asking residents to be extremely vigilant in their daily activities and to be on high alert for any signs of fire.
The MSFD thanks the USFS, Crystal Park Fire Protection District and the Colorado Springs Fire Department for their support and sustained partnerships that helped get this fire under control.
