Manitou Springs project

A contractor is working to upgrade the Serpentine Roundabout so that it will meet current design standards and can accommodate a 10-foot-wide multi-use trail, to be installed soon.

On Monday, Aug. 15, flaggers began directing traffic through the roundabout and Serpentine corridor. Serpentine Drive closed to all traffic from U.S. Highway 24 to the roundabout on Tuesday, Aug. 16.

Also, the roundabout has turned into a two-way road to allow access to Manitou Avenue for eastbound Highway 24 traffic. Flaggers will direct traffic 8 a.m.-5 p.m. on weekdays; during all other times, traffic control will be set up to allow two-way traffic.

The Serpentine Drive closure is expected to last until Friday, Sept. 9. During this time, the only way to access eastbound Highway 24 from the west end of Manitou Springs is from the Washington Bypass or from the Highway 24 on-ramp in the 200 block of Manitou Avenue.

The Foothills Trail has reopened in Garden of the Gods, along with a new multi-use trail underpass beneath Gateway Road. The latest milestone in the 30th Street Corridor Project allows bikes and pedestrians to cross under the road without having to negotiate traffic.

Major underground utility work continues between Gateway Road and Fontanero Street. The contractor team is nearing completion on installing the storm sewer infrastructure and water pipeline planned within the current road closure area.

Crews will soon start excavating for the new retaining walls. Grading work continues for the widened roadway and slopes.

Construction schedules are subject to change without notice, depending on weather and other unforeseen circumstances.
