An early-morning vehicular accident on Wednesday, June 15, damaged planters, a light pole and a tree in front of City Hall, 606 Manitou Ave. The driver was not injured in the rollover crash, although flames were seen coming from the vehicle.
Several people witnessed the accident and reported it, and a Manitou Springs Police officer responded to the scene. There, he saw a red 2018 Jeep resting on its roof, with Manitou Springs Fire Department personnel spraying water on the undercarriage.
The driver was able to climb out and the officer directed her to get away from the vehicle and sit on a bench. MSFD paramedics evaluated her and she declined to go to a hospital.
The driver said that she was distracted while driving west on Manitou Avenue at about 30 mph, then drifted off the road. She was cited for careless driving and the vehicle was towed.
