Despite high winds and a chill in the air, protesters turned out in front of Colorado Springs City Hall to voice discontent with the Trump administration, in particular Trump’s handling of Ukraine – on Feb. 28, a White House discussion ended with President Donald Trump and Vice President JD Vance berating Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy for his alleged disrespect and ingratitude, and Trump saying Zelenskyy was “gambling with” a third world war. The U.S. then suspended all military aid, including aid that was already authorized, absent coordination with other allied countries that have coordinated aid to Ukraine, according to multiple news outlets.
Billionaire Elon Musk and his Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) were also protest focal points. DOGE has spurred tens of thousands of federal job terminations. Critics cite DOGE’s lack of transparency and accountability, and the say the sweeping cuts are based on political ideology and will harm valuable employees and the public.
Some protesters handed out flyers for an International Women’s Day march on Sarturday, March 8 starting at the Pioneers Museum at 2 p.m. to “fight back against attacks on women and LGBTQ+ rights, fight for reproductive freedom and access to healthcare, stop deportations and keep families together, and stand with women in Palestine.”
