To the editor:
What a blow to lose Jack Elder! I appreciated reading all the letters submitted. … Jack touched so many lives.
Jack was an amazing guy! I remember him coming to meetings of the Manitou Art Project to see what the news was, and visiting us during installations or even pedestal repair work. Jack covered Concrete Couch events and projects, and was good about interviewing students … what a great experience for the youth to be interviewed by Jack!
Jack did so many things. Driving those big Grayline buses, for example. Working at the high school. And, of course, his in-depth and comprehensive coverage of all things Manitou.
When Jack started dating Johanna Goodman, she was working with Concrete Couch so I was able to see that relationship grow from a close vantage point. It was so nice to see the two of them together, happily enjoying each other’s company.
Jack and I were able to trade artwork; he got one of my paintings and I got a photograph. We each felt we got the better part of the deal.
He had a great eye with his photography and he made the everyday special. I think he did the same with his reporting.
I’ll miss you, Jack.
