To the editor:
I have great concerns about a fire-training center in the woods in our small city.
1. How often have controlled burns gotten out of “control” all across our country? Too often.
2. Why does a town of 5,000 people need its own fire training environment? Ridiculous.
3. Congestion! Residents’ and tourists’/visitors’ vehicles are already
creating one-lane access throughout this neighborhood. Fire evacuation and road safety is already a grave concern.
4. Is there a plan to “share” this training site with other departments? Is that a revenue grab or hubris? At the cost of the residents’ safety and quality of life!
Our city is prosperous and, with our limiting topography, we are bursting at the seams already.
A new fire-training environment needs to be in an area with lots of open space and multiple vehicle access points.
Remember when our fire department lost control of the fireworks at 4th of July one year? Accidents happen!!
Council members, please vote NO on this dangerous contract.
